Someone explain something to me...
Toledo's recruiting class rankings on 247 are so much better across the board than App's (App's last 3 classes were rated outside the top 100, Toledo's are 20 places hire with significantly more 3-star guys), so why is it that the eye test says that App is at least somewhat more talented than Toledo?

Could it be that the 247 guys are actually just assigning recruiting ratings based on who a person commits with and gives Sun Belt commits lower ratings for no real reason.

Could it be that having different staff evaluating recruits in different geographic areas and conference doesn't give any kind of consistency?

Noooooo...G5 recruiting ratings are totally gospel. 07-coffee3

And for those that want to talk about "outliers", tihs isn't one or two two stars guys that are late bloomers, these are entire teams made up of dozens of guys.

Speed kills! Speed can make up for mistakes. Toledo is slow.

I'm just reading this as a "good job, App State" from our truest rival.

I think there have been a few App fans that consistently talk about how inconsistent rankings of recruits that are 3* and lower are. It’s about recruiting the right athletes for the system and addressing you needs each year which may or may not be the highest ranking talent available. It’s about addressing needs, matching athletes to your system, and player development.

This is true as well, with exception the state of Ohio has good high school football competition throughout.

JCGSU will be along shortly to tell you he has all these charts and algorithms proving how flawless the recruiting ratings are and App just gets lucky with some players and does a good job of developing others.

I might add excessive speed kills excessively!

Hey Hemi Man. Next time you talk to World B ask him about the BBQ place in Greer, SC I hooked him up with.

Ha! I will do! We were texting earlier about the perceived pecking order of G5 conferences.

Because ranking high school boys and predicting how they will perform in an entirely different environment is silly. It's just a guess at best, particularly at our level.

247 has a single national scout that rates many of the players himself and reviews those he does not.
Coaching has a lot to do with results, too, as Tyson Summers proved throughly.
App State has outperformed its recruiting rankings the last few years. Most teams in FBS do not.
App St has obviously done a good job of finding players that fit what they want to do and coaching them up.
Outliers do happen and the Mountaineers, as a team, are one. I’d be proud as hell if I were a fan of them.
