Geez can we please leave politics out of it and see it for what it is. A football game. Some of you guys will jump on any opportunity to grind an ax.

None of the jabs are anything remotely close to politics; it’s ridiculing a hypocritical cult.

It's not political at all.

They're well within their rights to believe that humans lived with dinosaurs on an Earth that's less than 10,000 years old, just as I'm well within my rights to call them out on their hilariously stupid practice.

A lot of people here sure do get a red rump when Liberty is brought up.

Trolling a significant portion of your alumni, your students, your faculty, and your fans via scheduling is not a particularly good way to engender support for your institution or your program. Smart programs know this. Scheduling LU is for programs that are desperate to fill a schedule, arrogant enough to discount huge swaths of their interest base, ignorant of the issues involved, greedy enough to use a cheap stunt to balance the ledger, influenced by groups like the FCA or similar groups to use their program to make political/religious statements via scheduling contrary to the welfare of a large portion of the people who fund your program, or dumb enough to think that this might not blow up in their faces. God only knows what outrages are in the future by an emboldened and unaccountable program.

If I'm a fan of NMSU or UMass, I'd not be terribly offended by the decision to schedule Liberty. But for just about everyone else, the question is why would you do this. You don't recruit Southern Virginia. It won't help the conference gain on other conferences. It won't be a big game for your fans nor will it draw significant visiting team attendance. If you win it, so what. If you lose it, you're embarrassed. No upside, only downside. Why not schedule a traditionally weak program in a conference like UTEP, UNLV, Kent State, Ball State, EMU, FIU, etc.?

Besides, if you're doing 1 OOC G5, 1 OOC FCS as your home schedule, you're going to have a home OOC schedule of a FCS and Liberty. Bleech.

How many of you agree with everything your other opponents schools do. But you don't go nuts when you play them. It's a football game...play it. I doubt you will get cooties. And you call them close minded. You are no better.

Your first statement is really far-fetched.

I don't think you understand how scheduling works in an athletic department. It's not as easy as calling up Ball State, UTEP, etc. and scheduling a 2-game series to be played three years down the road. For Troy, they scheduled Liberty because they needed a replacement for the UAB games that were scheduled. UAB bought out the contract right after their program folded. Most of these athletic directors also don't give two craps about Liberty's stance on things. They just want to schedule a game if it somehow benefits their program, which is their job.

And the FCA and other Christian groups don't have any sway whatsoever on an athletic department to schedule a team. Those groups don't often try to force issues with athletic departments on stuff like that anyway.

Just as I'm well within my rights to call you out on your arrogantly elitist attitude. The liberal mindset fascinates me. They claim to be open and accepting, but it turns out only if you believe the way they do. If not they begin insulting and demeaning you. You libs are very warm and caring people.

Wonder if the same folks railing against Liberty for their belief system would have the same reaction if their school scheduled BYU or Notre Dame? I never heard any App person utter one peep of dissatisfaction with playing Furman or Samford. Two schools deeply rooted in Christian beliefs. Nor did they have a problem supporting a coach who was as deeply religious as you can get. Liberty is a convienent whipping boy for the left and some people just like to pound their chests.

That's one of the most misguided things I've ever read on this board. You're nuts if you think before scheduling a game the AD's calls around to different campus groups to get their feel on it. It's a stinking ballgame. They're not coming to campus to hold a revival. Although given the state of the world we live in today that probably wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Given the strength of upcoming Liberty schedules (Auburn, Ole Miss, Duke, Wake, Va Tech, Virginia, Army) it looks like Liberty is doing Georgia Southern a favor.

The AD should at least understand the views of the people who fund their program. I'd agree with you that schools that schedule Liberty either don't think that they should consult or even understand the views of groups opposed to endorsing Liberty University, or have decided to completely ignore/troll those groups.

It might be different if these groups aren't funding the athletic department. This has the potential for nothing but problems. Telling people 'f-u, we're scheduling Liberty and you, personally, get to pay for it' isn't a good plan.

A smart AD would be meeting with his funders and would understand their views. He or she would see each student population as someone that he or she would want to support FBS athletics.

Yeah I brought this up some time ago. If you want to go with religion I would rather play Liberty than ND or BYU. The thing is I wouldn't care to play any of them. None of them will convert me.

If we didn’t interact with any one with opposing views we’d be pretty lonely and boring.

It’s a football game - seems we’re taking this too seriously.

Trying to compare Furman and Samford with liberty is arguing in bad faith. Those two outclass liberty in both education and their faith. Liberty is embarrassing on both subjects

Yea, I'd have much less of an issue if USA scheduled Furman or Samford for a payday game.

It might be different if you weren't paying for a party you can't attend or that you are most definitely NOT welcome at. LGBT athletes and coaches are effectively locked out of the high salaries and multiple scholarships that we are paying significant amounts for. Scheduling Liberty is insulting and humiliating to our fans. And a clear sign that our ADs are going to further that discrimination rather than combat it.

If it wasn't serious money, you might have a point. But it is about serious money.

Lets make a deal...strip out the student fee and the taxpayer subsidy for athletics and make it voluntary...make the program completely revenue neutral for the University....then I'll STFU.

Doesn't bother me. If you don't like something don't go there. It's really simple. It's a big country. There are places that I am not comfortable at but I just stay away. I am not going to holler and scream t o make them agree with me. Amazed at the arrogance. I am American enough that it gets my goat when someone tries to ram something down my throat telling I have to agree with anything. If that hurts anyone's feelings...get a life live it and leave mine alone.

Oh BTW go APP beat Toledo. This is a sports page right?

Liberty is a private university and for home and homes no money is exchanged at the G5 level. Actually in some cases Liberty is paying G5 programs for these.

Signing these home and home isn’t an attack on any group of people, claiming such is quite stretch even by today’s standards.
