1982 JMU-UNC game- NCAA Tournament
Complete game video of our epic 52-50 loss to eventual National Champions North Carolina. Never seen this game before, only highlights and still photos. What an effort against James Worthy, Sam Perkins and Michael Jordan

Anyone who grew up in ACC country in the 70s & 80s will recognize the play by play voice-the great Jim Thacker.

Some things to note:
1) Michael Jordan was called "Mike" back then.
2) Jordan actually got called for a walk.
3) Campanelli was a seriously animated coach
4) Thacker said it was a push off rather than a charge that got called against Fisher on Worthy.
5) Toilet paper streamers were in effect
6) No shot clock or 3 point line

It's a fun watch; kinda grainy but still worth it.

Yeah, the thing about Jordan being called Mike reminds me of when Tony Dorsett (pronounced "door sit") changed how his name was to be known when he went into the NFL to Anthony Dorsett (pronounced "door set"). I thought it was hilarious of how presumptuous it was for him to do that. As for the game I remember telling people later how JMU almost beat UNC with Jordan in that game and no one would believe me.

I was at that game. Funny thing is our seats were right in front of the Wake Forest section. Before the game, the WF fans said they would be rootin' for us, but that the refs would find a way to screw us in the end. Never forgot that.

That was during a 3 year run of consecutive 1st round NCAA tournament victories against Georgetown, West Virginia and Ohio State. A great time to be a student and basketball fan at JMU!!!

I could be thinking of another game and way off here, but did the end of this game involve one of the JMU female cheerleaders getting wiped out on the floor by chance?

Almost the exact opposite of when I was a student (04-08)... Thank god for more lax rules back then and bleachers behind the baskets so we could have fun joking on the other team...

not just any JMU cheerleader, but Drew Dudzik's mom.

I could be confusing this with something else, but am I remembering correctly that it was Dudzik's mom that got bowled over? I know she was a JMU cheerleader around that time. (now confirmed by DD...thought I heard that before!)

not just any JMU cheerleader, but Drew Dudzik's mom.

It was the beginning of the game and ironically she was on the floor picking up the streams of toilet paper after our first basket when she was run over by Jimmy Braddock.

Thanks. Even more reason to hate UNCheat (not that I needed more). 03-thumbsup

As I recall, the cheerleader's name was Sally Nay (spelling?) that got trucked by Worthy.
