How do we only sign eight players? Based on 63 scholarships shouldn’t we sign like 15-16/year?

We may have more scholarships available but we've had large classes the past few years so probably didn't start with 15 or 16 this year.

I do think we would benefit from adding another WR, however again we have plenty of bodies there and many are with 2+ years left.

There was a LB we showed interest in that I remember watching his tape and he looked like a great fit. I believe he was discussed on the recruiting board. I will have to go back and see what has become of him, hopefully we are still recruiting him.

All in all this looks like a great class to me featuring some guys we really wanted.

Last year’s class was loaded with linebackers and we aren’t losing a starter so no big deal there. The only hole on the roster I believe is at DT. I’m with tribal. Would love to see Crowell on that side of the ball.

Yeah, I'm not saying we need RBs or WRs, I just can't recall the last time we had neither in a class. We are fat with RBs but I could see us bringing in a WR, TE, and DL, at minimum.

Mild nitpick - I'd think we'd be looking at 12-13 as a vast majority of our players red-shirt, so really it's 5 classes on the roster at a time, not 4.

I really like this group. Three of the guys played QB in high school which is always a plus. And I like that we focused on the OL. Hopefully we pick up a couple of commitments in February as well.

Addionally, some previous PWOs may have earned scholarships.

Not true any more. JL has been using a few true freshmen each year lately.

RE: Football Signing Day 2018 Tracker
Interesting math in this thread. It's simple. There are 13 guys from the 2017 roster who are not on the 2018 roster. A couple were not receiving scholarship aid. A couple of walk-ons will receive scholarship aid for 2018. That leaves 10 or less scholarships available for incoming freshmen. We signed 8 yesterday. One or two more to give, and that's it.

As usual we will probably bring in 15 or so walk-ons next summer. Freshmen class is always between 20 and 28. Roster size 95-100.

RE: Football Signing Day 2018 Tracker
My memory was that the number of true freshmen playing was closer to zero in most years with an exception or two each season. I could be wrong though. I think we had five this year. The other thing to note is that preferred walk ons don't always get a full scholarship if they do get money. Often times scholarships are split up across players. The same thing happens with BCS teams.

FBS schools almost never give partial scholarships. Happens all the time at FCS, and technically FBS programs can do it but none of them do.

Correct. As I said the other day, I guessed we have 2 full scholarships to award and that can be for HS signees, transfers, or current walkons and may be divided into partial scholarships.

FBS schools cannot split scholarships- anyone receiving a scholarship at the FBS level has to receive a full ride - NCAA rule

Correct. FBS can only give full scholarships. FCS can give half or full scholarships (max 63 equivalents). There are no 1/3 or 1/4 scholarships.

Y'all figure it out before next year, lol, because we only have 10 seniors on the roster so the class next year will be small as well.

haha "but wait Delaware signed 15 players and we only signed 8, let's analyze why we aren't bringing in the same amount of kids as them" - the logic on this board sometimes.

The staff signed 8 talented young men yesterday on the first ever early signing day and I'm excited for their future contributions to the program. They know better than us the number of players needed and they will sign them accordingly.
