I wouldn't mind if they used a real gold looking color on the pants. I just don't like the yellow. We are purple and gold not purple and yellow.

I'm not sure what the name of our official gold color is, but it's like Notre Dame's, a champagne color, not some ugly yellow like the smelly Bisons. The gold pants we used to wear were the champagne color, not gold, per se. Why can't we, just once, wear the nicest uniform we ever had - royal purple jerseys with champagne britches and hats?

I think you are telling your age with the poop yellow observation. I see nothing bad with these helmets worn against Tech.

Idk.. champagne kinda blows. Gold is a tough color to mimic - we should use real gold leaf on helmets

I wish we still wore those helmets. We switched from the shiny gold to flat gold, downgrade, and then from the purple, visible logo in the picture to the gold, invisible logo, another downgrade.

I love the new block JMU logo but I just wish we could make it purple for the gold helmets so you can actually see it. The flat gold helmet with a gold logo is ugly.

Right now the white helmet is clearly the best look.

I agree. The outline JMU logo on the gold helmets actually looks sweet if you're up close standing next to the players, but if you're in the stands or watching on TV, you can't really see it. I like the white helmets but I hope we aren't abandoning the gold ones or even the purple ones. As for the grey and black, you could donate them to a high school or something for all I care.

I love the white/purple combinations we have worn all season. the white lid so far outshines that fugly matte gold helmet. Purple jerseys at home and white on the road.

Watching a little of the Redskins game as they are playing in one of their throwback uniforms.
They have changed uniforms a number of times through the years as has most NFL teams. Of course there are a few that seem like they have worn the same uniform forever.
I will contend that our white helmet has replaced the old fugly matte gold helmet as our primary helmet. Now, don’t a bunch of you go get your panties in a wad. The gold helmet replaced another helmet before it became our primary helmet. Change happens. Instead of a hundred different uni combos like we have done in the recent past perhaps it would be cool to break out a retro uni once a year. Not sure the MC on the yellow helmet works though!

The color of gold we use is called 'Vegas Gold'. Not too many schools use that particular hue. Somewhere along the line we switched shoe/uniform providers and the new one didn't offer the pants color, which is why we stopped wearing them. At least that's the reason I remember hearing at the time. The W-P-W and W-W-P looks sharp, but I wouldn't mind seeing the purple script Dukes helmet sometime. Agree that the gold helmets with the new logo wouldn't look as good.

On the O'Neil's conference today, one of the reports asked about uniforms. Cignetti said (paraphrasing) that he does have input on that and that he is going for consistency and a brand, which the University is going for as well, and that he wants the team to focus on what is important (I think he's said this before too...). He also acknowledged his time "at a school down south that wears the same thing every Saturday" and the success they've had.

I like his stance on consistency but that team down South really doesn't have to worry too much about finding recruiting advantages.

Kids aren’t wooed in recruiting by gear at Bama because they don’t need to be, but kids certainly are impressed by the uni swag by those who have. You’d think you wouldn’t want a kid that looks to that as an edge, but to be naive enough to think that could be costly.

This stuff is getting so far reaching. I cant wait to see Penn State and Tennessee ditch their blue and their orange for animal fur brown jerseys. The Flordia Gator Greens were a huge hit too. Also our field is green, why not have green helmets next week?

I dont think its weird to want your school uniforms to be in your school colors. Especially if youre trying to create a brand that people recognize.

And just to head off the "its for recruiting" argument, look all the teams who have won or played for the national championship in the past decade. Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, Oklahoma, etc. Recruits care about winning. Im all for having a cool alternate uniform, but making your team unrecognizable each week is just annoying.

Just going to drop this post here that I made a little over a year ago on this very thread. Everyone wanted to crucify me for wanting a consistent JMU brand last year.

So come on everybody, attack Coach Cig! He's going to kill recruiting.

There was another nugget that Cig said. (Also paraphrasing) He made a mention that was referring to something that happened at JMU once before he was here. Apparently the players made a decision on a Friday that they wanted to wear something different on Saturday. Basically Cignetti said he would rather have his players focused on the game and not what they were wearing the next day.
Honestly, I really liked Cignetti's response. He doesn't care for distractions and to him that's just another distraction. At the same time, I also agree with the brand. JMU is a brand, like it or not. To him, stability in the uniform design is part of establishing the brand.
He did not say that he wasn't open to variations in uniforms, but I believe it will be far more varied and when it happens it will be special.
As for recruiting, I agree that changing the uniform is a great tool. However, we have to remember who we have as coach. Coach Cignetti is a no nonsense kind of guy. I bet if you were to ask him, I would bet they are not using it as a recruiting tool. They have something far more important: wins. There's a chance Cignetti wouldn't want a guy who makes the decision to come to James Madison because they have cool uniform combinations. He would rather have a hard working football player that wants to play and wants to win.
Want a little more proof to Cignetti's thinking? I believe Madia asked him if he would prefer commitments in December. He basically said if they don't commit by December they aren't committed.
The culture is changing, folks.. whether you like it or not. In my opinion it's changing for the better. Just enjoy the ride.
