Announced as Oregon’s Head Coach

Funny to us old timer SBC fans as he was the Head Coach at FIU when they were doing so well, then surprisingly up and fired him. We knew they made a mistake by doing this... well here he is in a major job.

Oregon is a very nice and diverse state. Satterfield will enjoy it there.

Yes he is, and they are, thankfully no longer in the SBC.

Agreed. Although I do miss some aspects of having FAU. But basically nothing from FIU

RE: Mario Cristobal
The year after MC led FIU to 8 wins, the team went 3-9 with many seniors on the roster. I do think he should have been given one more year to see where things were at, but to be honest, I would guess it would have probably been another 3-4 win season. There was little talent left on the roster compared to the prior seasons. I am very thankful for what Cristobal did for the program, but I am also very thankful to have Butch Davis as our coach now. In Butch's first season he led FIU to as many wins as MC's best season (maybe more with a bowl game win). If only we didn't have to have Ron Turner fill the gap... I'm sure MC learned a lot under Saban. He may be a much better head coach now. I wish him nothing but the best (except for him to not recruit South FL!).

Also, I'm curious as to why there seems to be such a strong dislike for FIU?

RE: Mario Cristobal
The new early signing period might very well have kept Oregon from getting Chip Kelly back.

My guess is it'll be gone within 3 years when it ticks off a critical mass of Power 5 ADs.

I wouldn’t say I disliked FIU, it’s just the fan interest in the program, attendance, big market school with small attendances and no steady winning seasons in football. (We have a few programs like that still)

RE: Mario Cristobal
FIU stunk when he was the head coach except for the time period T.Y. Hilton was there.

Good news is he will have quite a few guys in that class of playing ability at Oregon.

Their best year was also Scott Satterfield's one year there as OC...

I'm sure Satterfield drew up the Hilton Heave.

No hate for FAU and FIU...its just that they really don't do much for most of our programs, and vice versa. FIU had (or still has - no idea) a special problem related to an absolute circus in their athletic department.
