RE: Kilpatrick released
I wonder if he has a buyout on those two remaining seasons if they opt out. Regardless, easy to see why he took that deal over Celts. If my memory of his original Nets deal is correct, if he got about half of that already, if they are going to pay him an added 2.1mm this year he likely came out ahead in all of this rather than having been with the Nets all year. Wild, wild stuff.

Damn. Even if SK only sticks around for a few more seasons he's had to have made enough money to set himself up for some ample business opportunities down the road. Good for him.

Team options do not have buyouts...essentially they say yes or no on roster day, if yes, he's making money and if no he's a free agent.

He's definitely getting paid well! And a short walk to the United Center for me to watch him play. Happy he landed here.

RE: Kilpatrick released
So does SK still get the full guaranteed portion of his Nets and Bucks contracts? Or is that waived now that he's signed with the Bulls? I don't know how NBA contracts work.

If he keeps the full guaranteed salaries, then this year he makes:
1,524,305 from the Nets
818,130 from the Bucks (789,725 salary plus a 2-way contract)
172,238 from the Clippers (2 10-day contracts)
2,100,000 from the Bulls
Total = $4,614,673

Not bad! In other news, David West is earning the veteran's minimum of $2.328 million.

He's making the most of his short stay so far with the Bulls, averaging 11 pts in 4 game and about 20 minutes. It looks to be a similar situation to the Nets, but Hoiberg is former player which i believe works better for SK. I think he will appreciated his work eithic a little more. Not necessarily easy to find in the nba.

For as long as Hoiberg lasts...

RE: Kilpatrick released
Good for SK but in 48 games this season he's shot 35% from the field and 29% from 3. Credit to SK because he's made it 4 years in this league when most thought he never would but it may be time to look into what type of money is available overseas. He's earned $6 million over the last four years but when you consider taxes and having to relocate so many times it's be really hard to have put a lot of money away.

Is it? What are taxes...50% generously? You don't think he can relocate, live life and put away good portions of the 3 million dollars? Because of his athletic scholarship he likely had no debt. If SK lives reasonably he could absolutely be putting away a ton and letting it work for him.

You're probably right. I just kind of assumed there's more expenses than we assume. I wasn't insinuating he's a paycheck to paycheck employee but was just saying he's still at the point where he should be accumulating as much wealth as possible since the window for a professional athlete is so small

He will be fine if he manages his money wisely, but you never know about pro athletes. Many of them have extravagant lifestyles and a high "burn rate" to match.

I get what you're saying, and don't disagree. I'm hopeful he's been living like a guy who knows his job is day to day and not going to last forever. He's making enough to live pretty well and set himself up to be comfortable for a long time based on what he's made these last few years.

I believe Mick made a comment that SK drove into town from Milwaukee to watch us (can't remember which game he was announced at) so he's probably doing a pretty good job being conservative with his money.

I don't know how the Bulls do not keep SK next year, he may be their best player offensively right now. Has 20 tonight thru 3 qtrs off the bench. His stats since pickup. Celts must be hating they didn't get him, dropped 24 against them last night. Great to see.

He's killing their chances in the Draft Lottery...it's kind of funny, some Chicago sports guys are pissed that he's playing so well.

They're down by 20. The Bulls have become the Bengals. LOL.

Truthfully i'm not real sure this year's draft save maybe for Deandre Ayton where you end up in that lottery run is that big a deal. I can't really distinguish any guaranteed studs in the pack. The Bulls fans should be happy they've found a guy who can score. That lottery standing is the least of their worries.

RE: Kilpatrick released
I think the fact that Brad Stevens wanted to grab him says something.

I was very impressed with him when he was here, but he's really shown me something in his pursuit of an nba career. Very few guys would take the rejection the way he has. He picks himself right back up and gets on with it regardless. That's not easy to do in any business, particularly one as in the public eye like prof. sports. Guy's a warrior.
