They do pretty well in both of those sports in D-II. We'll have to see how well their coaches recruit for D-I when they get there.

UCSD strikes me as a school that really has their act together. I predict that within five years their athletic program will be one of the top two or three in the Big West. I also expect a UCSD-Hawaii rivalry to emerge and I think it’s gonna be fun.

They'll join Big West starting in the 2020 season and will be fully transitioned to D-I in 2024.

When I first was introduced to college basketball as a kid in the 1970s, San Francisco was a name everyone knew. They were one of those always-good programs guaranteed to make the tournament and advance, one of say the 20 most well-known programs out there, and of course we all had heard about the legendary Bill Russell championship teams of the 1950s.

And then in 1982, their star guard Quinten Dailey (a name I haven't thought of in decades) assaulted a female student, and when that was being investigated it came out he was being paid under the table, and that plus a lot of other crap caused the school to give itself the Death Penalty and kill the program.

That was just about as big of a sports story at that time as SMU was 5 years later. And like SMU, SF has never come close to rebounding as a program. I haven't heard of them since.

I guess it opened the door for my USF (which as of 1982 I had no idea existed) to become *the* USF.

Basketball and baseball round robins would be great for the schools. I might be in the minority but I really enjoy the Big 5 in Philadelphia, the Beanpot, and would probably enjoy this, too, if it became a thing.
