I don't see where nepotism comes into play here. Maybe you are confusing that word with "stupidity". What were they thinking?
Stupidity might be kind.
I'm not understanding how you can take a guy who's never been a college head coach and has a less than stellar career record as a professional head coach and hire him to run your program.
Was it THAT important to keep those assistants around that you had to resort to THIS?
When you apparently thought none of those assistants were good enough for the HC job?
Napier only has three years coordinator experience (two at Clemson, where he was fired, and this season at Arizona State)
Phil Bennett was an absolute failure as a HC at SMU
My guess is Edwards is a placeholder for a couple of years training Napier to eventually take the job. Herm Edwards is a seasoned head coach and is well respected in the field. A young coach can learn a lot from working with him.
So, remember this Arizona State situation? The AD hired his old buddy Herm Edwards but retained both coordinators from the old regime, saying this was some kind of new coaching model where the head coach was a CEO and the coordinators were able to run their own show as they saw fit?
Now it looks like a tire fire. Both coordinators have resigned. The OC is becoming the new head coach at Louisiana-Lafayette.

So what's the over/under on ASU wins for 2018 - about 3.5?

Sounds right. It's a shame that ASU isn't on Cal's schedule next year.

Arizona makes the obvious move and hires Kevin Sumlin to replace Rich Rodriguez.

Big difference between Arizona and Arizona State, huh?

Sumlin doesn't necessarily have a great track record with developing QBs.
A lot of guys transferred from A&M and ended up better off.

RE: P5 coaching changes...
Tate's comment makes sense. He isn't concerned with being developed by Sumlin's coaching staff; he just wants to run an offense that he can fit into. If he plays well in 2018 then he'll probably go into the NFL draft. If he had to try to switch to a triple-option offense, he'd have no pro future at all at QB.

The irony of it all: all three service academies have moved away from using the triple option on an exclusive basis.
In this year's Army-Navy game, there was only one true triple option play run in the game (Army).
When Larry Fedora moves on from Chapel Hill, I would love for either Niumatalolo, Monken, or Calhoun to coach the Tar Heels.
