I noticed the general tone of resentment toward Cobb from App fans. I do not know why. For us, he delivered everything he promised thus far.

Cobb deserves credit for upgrading App's facility in his first five years. The Athletics Center, the baseball and softball fields and helping football during the period of attendance growth. He was never perfect (neither is Gillin) but some of his shortcomings became more apparent from 2010-2014 and he left town right after putting the WBB staff on administrative leave which led to termination a week after he left. He also left a financial mess which Gillin sorted out in 15 months, which hasn't been that widely known.

Many weren’t a fan of Cobb due to his lack of personal skills or charisma in group settings. He got more done at App in six years than the previous AD did in 25 years. App is probably 15 years behind where we could be due to the AD before him.

Then Cobb probably made the worst hire in D1 basketball the last 30 years with Capel. Cobb was good for App at the time he came in, the truth about him in somewhere in he middle.

We are however very happy with Doug now, he’s more of a business guy running an athletic department which from my perspective is great.

If Cobb and the other half dozen App transplants down there can bring our culture to your inherit advantages that could be a powerful combo.

Worse than Cobb was his staff at the time. Mike Flynn was an absolute nightmare. Last I heard he was over at Georgia Tech.

I'm a fan of Georgia State and the most veteran of its fans on this board, the way you have handled some rough seasons has impressed me greatly as I don't know if I would act the same, it was a good game and was much More competitive then the past which I'm glad to see, best of luck for the small amount of the season left :)

I think people give Cobb far more credit for our upgrades than he deserves. Without the Michigan win and 3 national championships I doubt we would have near the facilities and financial support. In that sense I have to give a lot of credit to J Moore and some guy named Edwards. Cobb mostly cashed checks the football team"s success wrote.

Cobb burned a lot of bridges on the way out of town, over spent on facilities, and took credit for the success of our football team. Much like your situation he was much better than his predecessor, but he has a lot of flaws that start to show once the newness wears off.

I doubt his presence made much of a difference with securing the stadium. Let's see if he can come through on the upgrades and future coaching hires.

It was a much more subdued App fanbase than I’m used to seeing at away games though.

Several alum from the championship teams from the Georgia area that were tailgating together include: Richie Williams, Dexter Jackson, Daniel Bettis, Brandon Turner, Grant Oliver, amoung other’s. Jerry Moore was also in attendance.

You and I could have accomplished more in 5 years than the previoous AD did in 25.

Yes it was. looking at yards gained and how 1 st half possessions ended. Had we not thrown 2 int's and gave then a short field for their lone TD the score would have been much worse.

RE: Georgia State vs App State Game
Cobb did a pretty good job at App overall. Of course, that's just my opinion. He does seem to lack personal charisma in the social environments, but at the time, we had Peacock as a Chancellor and the two of them combined for a pretty effective team. The game day experience was overhauled, and I do think significant improvements were made. The "bad taste" that was left with many fans is directly related to coaching hires...most notably Jason Capel (Basketball). Add to that the poor handling on the Jerry Moore "retirement" and you get some of the comments you've seen.

I hope he does a great job for GSU. Hopefully he has learned some lessons along the way (as we all have). I hold no ill will towards him.

Our previous AD was Ms Social and yet was the worst AD in America. I will take the lunch pail AD.

Well, Richie is from Camden but SC is close enough to be in the area.

Exactly, area not being exclusively the state of Georgia.

In the past, Charlie Cobb mentioned them in local radio, press videos, and interviews. If I come upon any archives, I'll post here. GSU will try to squeeze in as much upgrades during each offseason as time allows. Without any unplanned hindrance, each phase should be finished every offseason. He also said he will reveal more information little by little to the public as he sees fit. By the time our new basketball arena is finished, I'm sure the football stadium will be completed too.

an App fan mentioned a fund issue, but that shouldn't be a factor. We already secured enough private funding and the state of Georgia will also be providing good chunk of money because we classified both the stadium and basketball arena as "educational multi-purpose facility"

http://www.680thefan.com/ga-state-audio/

as promised, I found a link to the local radio archives. In the latest show, the director of facility shed some light on the next phase of development. Phase 2 will start in few months. This offseason, GSU will focus on internal upgrades such as new weight rooms, equipment facility, classrooms, luxury suites, coaches offices, and whatever else they need for the entire GSU football operations to fully move into the stadium (currently the team practices in a facility nearby). I love that the team will be basically able to live in the stadium
