RE: women's basketball
It is too late in the season to drop 20 spots in the RPI with a win. Win and we are the #1 seed. It is that simple. It was that simple as soon as Elon beat JMU (before even handing us another loss) that if we beat JMU at home and didnt lose to anyone other than Elon we were the top seed. I had said it before the Elon game that the result of that game was meaningless because the game that mattered was beating JMU. This team did that now they just had to stay focused through their final 3 games (they have done that through 2 of those).
This team is fun to watch and are not quite like teams of the past. I hope we support them because any one of the top 3 teams has a legitimate chance at going dancing. The other 2 will be in the WNIT.

RE: women's basketball
I will add that Elon to me is still the favorite and the toughest team to beat in this conference this season. They have the size and talent that is difficult to defend for 40 minutes. JMU is a similar version of them but I personally think they are just a step behind despite playing a similar style. Our lack of height can struggle against those teams and it will be quite the challenge, no doubt. Needing to face only 1 of them is such an advantage that it cannot be stated enough how important getting that top seed was.

Think Elon was just better last year. Don't see the same Elon this year. Having watched them play 3 times this year, Elon seems a lot more inconsistent. Will all depend on which Elon team shows up to the DAC.

RE: women's basketball
Dragons took care of business today and clinched the #1 seed by beating CoC by 14.
I wasn't expecting this, but after the handshakes and Charleston left the court, they announced that Drexel was the Regular Season Champions. They shot off a bit of confetti, handed out tee-shirts to the team, and took a team picture. I thought that they weren't going to announce anything officially until the official RPI comes out tomorrow morning. I know this isn't the team's ultimate goal but as somebody mentioned to me today, the athletic department at Drexel needs SOMETHING to celebrate and market around. I'm sure that JMU doesn't do that when they clinch the #1 seed.
As of now, Drexel's RPI is #46 and JMU's is #64. (Source: Warren Nolan)

No reason to not announce it. We are not dropping over 20 spots for winning this late n the season. It's nice to be regular season champs. Now time to regroup for the tournament and try to go dancing

Plus, tomorrow's RPI is for seeding purposes. DU DID win the regular season, sharing the honor with JMU.

Yeah, but the shirts were pre-printed and there was no guarantee that JMU would win. I mean, after I saw W&M play recently, could say that it was a guarantee that JMU would win...but you know what I mean.
Did JMU hand out regular season champions shirts at the end of their game?

I would guess they did. Both Northeastern and College of Charleston did for the men's.

For the WNIT, do both Drexel & JMU get autobids if Elon wins the tournament? I suspect only the #1 tournament seed gets that auto-bid.

I do not believe so. I believe each conference gets 1 auto bid and our conference determines that by seeding. Regardless I think the two losers between us, JMU and Elon will be WNIT bound regardless of guarantees.

Agree, just remember being surprised that the NIT & WNIT didn't share uniform rules on auto-bids a few years back.

There are twice as many teams in the WNIT so the WNIT gives an autobid to every conference. I really think that the NIT should expand to 64 and do away with the CIT/CBI, but that's for another discussion.

I agree with all of them. This is is impossible to quantify, but how often does a team, men's or women's basketball, finish in 1st place without a first team player? Amazing. The CAA All-Conference team was made up of the best players on the #2-#6 seeds.
Aubrey Brown and Sara Woods may have gotten snubbed out of honors, but when you have a team with so many good players to go around, it's tough to give an award to everybody.
