she will get it! I was asking questions because honestly i don't know much about it. I do know we have stunk for a long time and she has a solid history. I think she will be fine

She wasn’t able to build anything at ODU but hopes. Those hopes didn’t amount to much.

We keep hearing this from ODU fans, but it really doesn't make me think any differently of her: She's a solid coach.

Our expectations here are NOT what they are for the Women's program up in Norfolk. We have two WNIT banners hanging in our rafters, brought to us by a Hall of Fame WNBA player who somehow decided to coach here a couple years. And that's it. We don't go to NCAA Tournaments. We don't win CAA titles.

We'll settle for being competitive.

RE: 2017-18 Women's Basketball Thread
The Hawks picked up their first league win, and 2nd road win, of the season yesterday, defeating Hofstra 59-55 thanks to Madison Raque's 15 points in the 4th quarter (23 total). Lacey Suggs also posted 15 points with 9 boards.

The win puts us at 8-14 on the season, 1-10 in league play, and # 265 in the RPI. We're no longer in last place, as Charleston fell to 1-11. We could make it 2 straight against those very Cougars; we face them in our next game on Friday night in Trask. It will be the first of 2 matchups with Charleston over the next 3 weeks.

4-14 and 8th place looks like our ceiling looking at the remaining schedule. There's a pretty clear delineation between the Top 6 teams in the league and the bottom 4 (Hofstra, Towson, us and Charleston):

Feb 9: vs. Charleston (1-11, # 261 RPI)
Feb 11: vs. Drexel (10-1, # 56)
Feb 16: @ W&M (6-5, # 138)
Feb 18: @ JMU (10-1, # 82)
Feb 23: @ Charleston
Mar 1: vs. Towson (3-8, # 269)
Mar 3: vs. Elon (7-4, # 69)

That's been a trend in the CAA for a long time, really. Rarely do you see the same school having a great Men's AND women's program at the same time. Both sports are fully funded thanks to Title IX, so the Women's teams definitely have opportunity across the board.

Next year should be a really good season. We have 2 transfers from Rutgers and 1 from ODU.

RE: 2017-18 Women's Basketball Thread
Rough loss at home for the Women's team last night, as we lost to Charleston, 72-63. That puts us in last place, as the Cougars improve to 2-11 and we fall to 1-11.

Weird game too. Not a single foul was called until 1:08 left in the first half. It was easily the fastest half of basketball I've ever seen in Trask Coliseum, for either the Men or Women. Both teams took a lot of 3's, so there weren't many legitimate opportunities for players to draw fouls, but even then, it was really amazing. Also, Charleston's Tanisha Brown finished 1 assist away from a triple-double, with 15 points, 15 boards, 9 assists and 3 blocks.

But as I mentioned in my previous post, help is on the way. Shrita Parker, a 5-7 Senior guard, averaged 12.1 points per game as a Junior at Rutgers and looks like the best of the incoming trio. Ashli Jeune, the other Rutgers transfer, redshirted two seasons due to injuries and is a bit of an unknown. She's a 5-10 guard. And Gigi Smith from ODU is also 5-10, and averaged a modest 5.9 ppg under Coach Barefoot in her 2 years there.

Also joining those three transfers on the sidelines is a relatively recent newcomer who isn't showing up on the roster yet. She's a tall forward that the coaching staff evidently found playing ball on campus. She'll be a walk-on that is eligible next season as well.

RE: 2017-18 Women's Basketball Thread
While Charleston had their best 3 point shooting outing of the season by far, they pretty much scored at will on drives to the basket. And there were plenty of fouls/ muggings on both ends. It seems the officials were making some sort of a statement to the league. Looked at times where they were actually joking about it.

Well, I’m not sure you’d find many folks who follow the Monarchs to tell you that Karen had much success. She sells her product well and she’s a human can of Red Bull but the production on the court ... not so much unfortunately.

That may very well be true. And only time will tell. But I do believe many ODU fans are a little delusional thinking they are going to get back to the old glory days.

This has nothing to do with delusion and glory days. This has to do with walking the walk and not just talking the talk. She talked and did little walking. Then, left the program with barely enough players to field a team. I can understand moving on. She left a wake of emptiness. Great person, very motivational, but the results are not congruent.

OOC record was padded with easy wins. Look to see what she did against good teams. We were never competitive.

Like the previous poster said, she is an energetic coach, a friendly lady, but she can’t coach her way out of a paper bag.

Her coaching strategy was give Simms the ball and have her create. Simms shouldn’t have been at ODU, so she was worth 30 points by herself. Look at the games where we were leading and lost. Other team made adjusts and KB never did.

And the two transfers you got from ODU... not very good.

I'll never understand why grown adults would go to another school's forum to throw shade at a coach that left their program. If she's that bad, you should be happy she's gone and not really think about her that much and focus on the coach and team you have now.

Then you take it a step further and drop shade on some college players.

I'm sure in your real life everyone loves you and you're too amazing for the rest of us.

Feel free to run along now.

The Lady Hawks pulled off a road upset over W&M last night, 64-49. The Tribe were 16-8 (7-6) entering the contest.

Jenny DeGraaf put up a double-double, with 17 points and 16 rebounds.
