Average teams have at least 3 guys on the court looking to shoot the 3 at all times. Couple that with the fact that you can't touch a n offensive player without getting a whistle and it makes it tough to watch for me.

I think it's a great idea, and this isn't the first time I've heard it. Even the NBA has shifted away from interior defense due to foul calls and more perimeter shooting.

That was CoastGuard who you just responded to, not me. I was the one who quoted your posts.

Maybe if 2 different posters are calling you out, and you're the new guy, you should take it under consideration that we're not the ones in the wrong here? We welcome new posters here, but when you show up to a new place, it's advisable to "wade in", not be combative. But that's just me.

Good gracious. Two games in and this nonsense has already started. Going to be a long year on this board for sure.

I think we almost have to go 4 guard against certain teams. We simply don't have the bigs right now to run a standard PF with a center and we're loaded with guards. Go for the mismatch instead. Also, forcing Cacock to cover 3 point shooters and pulling him away from the paint on defense is a loser.

Talley, Taylor, Fornes, Estime, Cacock.

Press more with this group, and use their athleticism to beat teams. Bring in some bigs over the next year to play PF and center, then go to a standard lineup he likes. Keatts didn't favor that style, so our cupboards are bare. Elmore is the closest we have to an outside shooting 4 on our roster, and he's not only hurt but unproven.

Wow fellas! Out of town and tied up with work so much that i forgot about this game. Looks like we can't stop anyone once again. Defense is concerning, very concerning. We have the firepower offensively but on D maybe giving up 80 + to a D3 WAS really a bad sign,

I can understand using 4-guard lineups here and there, but I think we need to give a traditional look the majority of the minutes out there. We're still running on offense, but on defense, we're focusing on the halfcourt set. And you can't win those battles with a 4-guard lineup against the big boys.

We need to give Cacok as many chances as possible to play the 4. And hell, maybe Joe Wolf can help Marcus and Kalina improve. But that isn't going to happen overnight.

RE: Davidson (Tuesday, 7 PM)
That's a really good take SN. However, you have to be able to roll 4 bigs in his system and 1 of those bigs has to be able to step out and defend via foot speed/know how against top flight teams. And, Davidson is a top flight team this year. The thing is that if Powell (not a real walk on-he can play) was in there, you have 4 guys that can dribble, pass and shoot. It's so obvious to me that the team picks up the pace when he's in there. They know that the ball won't stick and there's a ton of movement. You could even throw Estime in there as a freshman too. He's gonna get minutes regardless, but it will help diversify his game too.

At the end of the day, as a coach you have to go with your best options. This team will evolve and this coach is smart enough to know what to do. Let's see how it plays out. Matt is not available right now so playing small off the bench makes the most sense to me and I've seen a lot. It's obvious at this point but force feeding the system may pay dividends later perhaps, and perhaps not. You look to do both at this point. It's about being diverse and adapting to what is necessary. If you do that, in the interim, you win games you should win, but look to the future when you can truly roll 4 bigs, with 1 of the bigs being able to stretch and possibly defend out. Heck, UNCW won a ton of games last year with 1 big, yes we had a killer at 4, but we could do well, off the pine, that same way....trust me on that.
