So how did...
So how did the MAC get Wednesday night games on ESPN and CBS Sports Network during the same block of time, and not piss of the ESPN gods?

Simple: The MAC's contract is with ESPN. ESPN must have sold (sublicensed) some games to CBSSN.

We have a winner!

MAC TV contract allows ESPN to sell games to CBSSports and other networks. I believe AAC has same language. Sun Belt's does not/

I have a hard time with what the MAC has done to their fans and students with these midweek games all the time. Especially as cold as it can be in that part of the country. Maybe they don't figure anyone would come on Saturdays either. BTW what is that on Kent States helmets?

Interesting that the Sun Belt did not similarly negotiate this. I wonder why.

SBC TV contract was agreed to in the days long before networks would sell off programming. We've not actually signed a new deal since the original one with ESPN was signed, we've merely updated it over the years.

This. The disparity in fans with *most MAC schools is negligible. That's why the ESPN deal is so sweet for them. They'd play Sunday at 5am if they had to.

Just curious, are you MAC fans happy with weeknight games and do you attend as often as you used to?

RE: So how did...
I'm fine with playing a couple weeknight games, actually enjoy the midweek bit when we are on the road, less so at home but if I can take the next day off it isn't bad.

But this insanity of no Saturday games in November is taking it way too far. Maybe if it were AAC level money it'd be tolerable but the MAC deal while much better than the CUSA and Sun Belt deals, isn't so rich a deal that it is worth it in my opinion.

Visibility to recruits is why MAC teams can play consistently in high end and NY 6 bowls and the rest of the G5 are happy to get 2 top 25 votes

That's highly debatable.

MAC had two New Years reps because they had teams that took advantage of playing crappy schedules and won every game.

RE: So how did...
The MAC is weird. They have small private school sized fanbases even though they are decent sized, quality public schools. I believe they would have a lot more support if their games were dependably Saturday experiences, then they'd gain a lot more attendance and donations. But now they're just purely a made-for-TV league with no regard to whether fans or even students can get to games.

I'd much prefer the Sun Belt over the MAC model, even though they're on TV more. Financially, I think it would be a wash because they lose gate revenue in exchange for their MACtion TV money.

The MAC's other problem is that 9 of the the 12 schools are in either Ohio (6) or Michigan (3) where the predominant teams in those states are OSU, Michigan, and Michigan State. They basically cannibalize themselves.

Don't have to be a MAC school to get screwed.

We had a Saturday home game on 9-23-17.

8 WEEKS LATER..

We'll have a Saturday home game on 11-18-17.

Doesn't matter they basicaly have our funding and get results better than the AAC. They're doing something right.
