WAC will be fine, just means an invite would have to go out to APU immediately following the announced departure of either/both of those schools.

Here is the run down:

NMSU - Not going anywhere until the FB situation gets settled...it won't get settled until the P4 TV contracts are up for renegotiation/renewal in about 5-6 years. Even then they need massive realignment/regionalization to occur to find a FB home.

GCU - For profit private Christian school...yeah not going anywhere.

Bako - Wants/wanted BW, BW doesn't want them. Not going anywhere.

Seattle - Same as Bake except swap for WCC. Would only be a flight risk if Gonzaga ever left the WCC which probably never happens now that TV payouts have jumped the shark.

UVU - Nobody wants them so they arent going anywhere. In BSC footprint but isn't a good sports mix for the BSC (no MSoc, no Baseball).

UTRGV - Not a flight risk, don't have FB (and never will) so the Southland (best regional fit for their athletic profile) isn't interested.

Cal Baptist - In transition from D2, private institution that could theoretically fit the WCC profile...so maybe they become a flight risk in 80 years or so.

Azusa Pacific - Same as Cal Baptist as they were/are rivals with CBU. Can make FB non-scholarship and park it in the Pioneer League. Would be a perfect travel partner for CBU and adds additional exposure (recruiting) in SoCal.

Not sure of any other D2 targets but if there are any non-FB in Texas considering moving up (a TA&M available?) they should be on the list after APU to shore up the UTRGV/NMSU side of the map.

The WAC is like a cockroach in a nuclear holocaust...they'll be just fine...

Good post.
I know I said this in the other thread, but homboldt has a vote in two weeks on whether to kill football, I hope they don't because that program has some history, but if they do, I don't see much future for the gnac, they are already playing home and homes.

If UMKC leaves, perhaps Chicago State a stay of execution long enough to transition Azusa Pacific.

I think though the Summit will want UMKC to add baseball before they are readmitted, given that one of their six baseball schools, Fort Wayne, is a huge flight risk.

Again, Azusa Pacific has a football program. They will not be in the WAC.

RE: UMKC Expected to Leave WAC, Rejoin Summit
As the WAC is presently constructed there is no room for adding football. The WAC has committed to eight non-football playing school and one school (NMSU) who has no interest in playing at the FCS level. So, no D2 School which is seriously tied to its' football program is interested in joining the WAC.

The blueprint for joining the WAC...

The school needs to be easily accessible; near a major airport.
The school does not play football; no home in the WAC and impacts title 9.
The school needs to be well funded.
The school needs to have D1 level facilities or a plan to build them soon.
The School needs to be within the WAC's current footprint.

D1 level facilities? Not necessarily when you look at some teams in the WAC.

Well, they are likely to be in a 4 team league in a couple of weeks. I gjess it's possible Cal lute could move up, but azusa is going to have to do something if Humboldt drops.

And they completely meet the pioneer league profile. And Cal Baptist just move up. I have no idea if the administration wants too, but I'd be shocked if they haven't considered it.

Cal State Bakersfield, Seattle, and UT Rio Grande Valley have access to large arenas; if needed. The rest of the WAC play in decent D1 venues.

Whether you like it for not the 3,800 capacity Icardo Center is a D1 venue. Look at some gyms out east or even some Big Sky gyms they are much much smaller. Not every school has a 5,000 plus all seater state of the art arena. Just because it's not as nice as the Pan Am or GCU Arena doesn't mean it isn't a D1 venue. The Icardo is probably somewhere in the middle of all of D1. What does D1 venue even mean?

i wrote this in another post:
APU could follow the footsteps of GCU...go to the WAC for olympic sports ...

depending on how the numbers come out in the APU to d1 scenario:
APU football goes to the Big Sky...when NDSU football goes to MVFC
APU football goes to the Pioneer...just like univeristy of san diego
APU football goes to the way of Nebraska-Omaha...go d1 non-football

RE: UMKC Expected to Leave WAC, Rejoin Summit
Asuza Pacific is struggling financially. While Cal Baptist is growing APU is not (Is CBU eating APU, drawing the students APU needs?). If APU can get their finances in order D-I would be a logical way for them to go. Dixie State showed the path to keep Football.

I am pretty sure the four California FCS schools would schedule them due to proximity, to try and reduce travel for OOC games. Same for SUU and NAU. Further Dixie State would gladly schedule a long running November series when both schools would find it difficult to schedule opponents. Travel might actually be better than staying D-II.

And yes they would be perfect for the WAC. But the big question about APU is the health of the school itself. They need to be growing like CBU and GCU to justify moving up. That is not the case for APU.

RE: UMKC Expected to Leave WAC, Rejoin Summit
A thread from two years ago came true.

However I'm closing this thread, we are not going to have multiple threads discussing UMKC's departure and fantasy discussions about possible new members.
