New Offcampus Student Housing?
The flailing in this thread to criticize younger students and the College over a private venture unaffiliated with the College gave me a good chuckle.

I've lived in Williamsburg for about 20 years now, including some time in the Mount Vernon apartments in that area. I have never seen the shopping center with the 7-Eleven that's pictured there.

My main question, without having gone through any of the plans or article, is what's going to happen to Sal's By Victor?

I think thats where an old movie theater was...same block as Nawab, but the other end.
Gonna go ahead and guess that this shopping center (your last two pictures) are in a different Williamsburg. I also live here and have never seen it.

ok ok ok...geezzzz with the picture police. Blame Google.

To be fair, it does look an awful lot like this...https://www.google.com/maps/@37.2810824,-76.7226646,3a,75y,356.65h,90.18t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sUQCB9Wxpw3P6vJpplg5oVg!2e0!7i3328!8i1664

Regardless, the other pics are accurate and the overall message is the same.

Chill dude. No biggie. People were just confused as to where it was. And in fairness it does look similar.

That's all I needed to hear. Bring on the development.

It does look a lot like that, that was the problem! :) I'm glad senility isn't setting in yet for me.

Wait is this a done deal? That's awesome. That shopping center was so incredibly run down I think that will be great for the city.

Great for the city, great for the students. We need expanded housing for our expanded student population, now over 9000 counting grad students.

Williamsburg Shopping Center was the hub of Williamsburg in the 60s. In fact the other one on Monticello was newer and had the "good" movie theater. Both have declined started in the 80s/ It will be nice to have more things within walking distance to campus.

If you look at that architectural blueprint closely, the building on the corner of Richmond Rd and Monticello says "Hotel footprint." Thank God!

Since the Ho House and now Days Inn are gone, there really werent any walkable hotels to campus. This will be the #1 choice on gameday...

still has to pass a city council vote, but yes this other article says

Quote:Broad Street Realty is also working on a contract to purchase the shopping center across Monticello Avenue, which shows that there is significant retail interest in the space.

The preferred plan for the shopping center would add 380,000 square feet of new residential and retail space, a 140-room hotel and 624 beds in 240 residential units. While plans for the Monticello Shopping Center have not been made public, Broad Street Realty CEO Michael Jacoby has said that the Marshalls and Ace Hardware would move into that space.
