In order to make it in the world, (nowadays, and yes I know there is small percentage of people that are successful that only have a HS diploma or GED) you have to have some type of military or college background. Studies have been done on players that have skipped college and went straight to the pros after high school and the studies found that the majority of those players were broke by age 40. One injury can kill your whole career and the majority of the players don't have a Plan B.

I actually think a truly amateur college basketball game would be a lot of fun to watch. Let the pro-seeking players go straight to the NBA or the Developmental League. Let the college degree seeking players go to college. Disallow NBA entry for the college players until 4 years of college tuition have been completed.

This is the way it was originally supposed to be. College players are college students first who play for the love of their university - they are the warriors that represent fellow students and alumni in battle. Any dreams of getting to the NBA are secondary to this.

Nowadays all college players are hired mercenaries, and they fight for the team with the highest bidder...or the one that can best manipulate the shady market that handles such seedy arrangements.

I would love to take a handful of "not quite pro material" Memphis kids who grew up loving basketball, their city, and the University of Memphis, and put them up against any other city's group of kids...it would be a whole lot of fun and I bet we would win a lot.

I agree. No one forces these guys to go to colllege, so I dont see the necessity to pay the players. Having said that, I dont think players should be prohibited from going straight to the pros out of HS or after any given year of college. After all, it IS a free country. I do, however, like the idea of paying players the cost-of-attendance since these players devote MANY hours to their college sport and are unable to work part-time jobs, as a result.

Or you could pay them 50% of the revenue that NCAA basketball makes through ticket sales, merchandising, and TV deals like the NFL and NBA do instead of some forced amatuerism BS so Memphis can demand a $3000 donation for the right to buy seats

NCAA revenues should get plowed back into the academic programs of the participating schools. The overall mission should be to improve the quality of the academic programs and degree offerings of the participating member schools.

If a player's primary objective is to obtain compensation and not an education, that's fine - sign up for the NBA Developmental League. And if fans think it's only fair to pay the players, then become a fan of a D-League team. I'm sure the D-League would be more than happy to have you as a fan.

Gotta remove the money (derived from interest) first.

Pitino probably had a guy too. Yet he was still dumb enough to make calls that got him fired.

If 100+ coaches are involved, there will be other head coaches fired for things their assistants or "guys" did.

Cal's 'guy,' if he exists, needs to get caught a couple of times in some mind blowing scheme --- and Cal needs to have sex on a public eating table before I'll concede the two are equal. 03-wink

I guess Galloway Golf was not enough to satisfy you?

Small time local gossip. Not even close. Hell, not even in the same universe.

You apparently know very little of what he did here.

Have Good Character
Have a strong work ethic
Show up on time
Take pride in your work
Work well with others

The above will advance one's career far more than a liberal arts degree.
(or interdisciplinary studies).
add a trade to the list, apply yourself, and retire early.

And I bet doesn't mean Calipari.
