As an aside, is anyone watching The Orville on Fox? That show is not at all what I expected. I went in thinking it would be a "Police Squad" type spoof of Star Trek that would be cute for an episode or two. Instead, it's like Star Trek with better jokes. I'm a fan and would highly recommend giving it a watch if you haven't.

I'd give episode 4 for a somewhat disappointing 7.2 while I give episode 5 an improved 7.5 (the end mirror scene was very interesting and I liked Mudd)

I'm waiting for that 'breakthrough' episode I can give an 8+ to...maybe it's tonight?

Didn't quite get there for me. Seems like we're stuck in the weird spot of advancing the story and trying to fill in the character background.

I'm thoroughly enjoying Discovery; it's a lot of fun, and it's keeping me on the edge of my seat.

IMDB link

MGM is making Stargate: Origins, a digitial only prequel to the original movie. It supposedly will only be available through the MGM streaming service. It features Connor Trinneer (probably my favorite actor from Enterprise) as professor Langford.

They say 2017 release but I haven't found anything more detailed.

I really struggled to get on board with this show. Everything just felt...off. Until the episode that dropped on 11-5. That was a fantastic episode and now I am all in.

after Voyager I swore I would never watch another Brannon Braga produced abomination.

like, the only way they could make it worse would be to say 'you know what we need? Rick Berman...'

So far on Discovery 'Context is for Kings' and 'Into the Forest I Go' have really stood out to me as above average Trek...but I also enjoyed 'Battle at the Binary Stars', 'Choose Your Pain' and 'Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad'

Now that we are at the mid-season break... I like the show. It has some rough spots but over all good. However, I think the most telling aspect is that I can't watch reruns. I have tried but I get a minute or two in and lose interest. I felt the same way about DS9 and to a lesser degree, Voyager. I can now watch some Voyager reruns but I can't watch DS9. Even the episodes I haven't seen.

many people find serialized TV shows easy to binge but tough to re-watch and enjoy...that's never been an issue for me as I enjoyed re-watching the DS9 story arcs and Discovery isn't very far into it's run so for me it's easy to go back and catch the episodes again.

many feel that's why TOS and TNG killed it with re-runs because they're mini movies...but I like the idea of a serialized Trek series.

One thing I have noticed is they haven't had any truly terrible episodes...Season 1 of TNG had some REALLY bad episodes early on like 'Naked Now'...'Code of Honor'...'Lonely Among Us'...'Justice'

Discovery hasn't had any stinkers yet IMHO.

Agreed. Seems to be picking up the pace now that we have a handle on the characters (except for the dude that's was a Klingon POW).

This episode was fun.

I get the feeling Ash is actually the Klingon Voq altered to look human...in the brig scene he recited the Klingon prayer in Voq's voice.

I'd also love to see them bring back an 'evil' Michelle Yeoh to be the Terran Emperor.
