RE: Game Day: Rutgers
Tried to give it away, but found a way.......on the road.......in the Big 10!

If we had ANY offense in that game we would have coasted to victory. Plenty to work on, but when a defense plays like that, you'll have the opportunity to win a lot of games.

Congrats boys!

Dear Eagles,
What a nice win. Yes, it wasn't very pretty, but the team held tough and didn't give up. In my opinion, this win should give the team confidence going forward. just think, we have beaten a Big Ten team, and are the only ones in the MAC to have done it, so far.
Bob Wickersham, good call.

Thanks Ken. Not a tough call. EMU is the better team. Finally a signature win for the program...would love to get the UK game too!

I don't care how ugly the play was. This is the biggest EMU win of my lifetime. It's beautiful.

Congrats to the team and all the fans that watched all those Big Ten losses through the years! I'll be rooting for Rutgers to show well the rest of the year.

Creighton may very well be gone after this year. We need to face that reality.

BTW, EMU's calling card today was defense. Games which the defense wins are usually not considered 'pretty', but as they say, offense puts butts in the seats, but defense wins championships...

The MAC West this year will be downright interesting.

My only question, as always, do we have enough OL to make it to Detroit???

And talking of Detroit (Quick Lane Bowl) wouldn't it be sweet to get an invite if the ACC can't fill its slot...

I think Toledo takes is. WMU has no QB. Not sold on my Chips yet. Kansas is basically the Rutgers of the B12. Regardless. MACW showing up.

RE: Game Day: Rutgers
Yahoooooo!!!

That was an awesome W!!!!

I was thinking that this is too early for a bye week but in retrospect it's coming at a perfect time. Hopefully we get a couple healthy TEs integrated back into our offense, work on our OL run blocking, and special teams (punting, KO, KO receive, FG blocking).

Our defense was pretty fricking Awesome today!!!! This may be the best EMU defense I've seen at our school!!! As many of you predicted, the defense is way ahead of our offense. The next two weeks should help us get the O-Line tuned up. If we get the offense rolling, we should definitely go bowling and we are 4real!!!

Let's celebrate this victory but remember to take one game at a time!!

You know better. The game was exciting, I'm glad we finally beat a B10 football team and we're now 2-0 and the defense played solid for most of the game. But lets see cheap shot stupid penalties, dropped passes, a snap over our QB head that may have cost us a TD, blocked FG and a lack of running game. We may be 2-0 but sometimes its better to be lucky than good. I saw regression not clean up of our mistakes after the Charlotte game a performance CC called "disappointing". And we won because Rutgers is just as bad on the basics of good football execution and made their mistakes at critical junctures in the game. As they say timing is everything. To say we're a sound football football team at this point isn't true, overall we make too many mistakes and so far we're gotten away with them because we have a great QB and a solid defense. If we don't truly improve in the areas I mentioned it will catch up with us. I want a bowl game and a bowl game win. We need to play better then I've seen in the first two games to get there. A win EMU fans should all celebrate yes indeed! But don't make the mistake of thinking we're a better team than we are. Lets hope the bye week gives pause for reflection and we play a better executed game against Ohio U, one free of the mistakes I saw ont he field today.

RE: Game Day: Rutgers
Dear emu79,
I agree with you, and especially on the penalties when we had Rutgers stopped. We must have kept at least three drives of theirs alive because of the penalties, and they occurred on third downs when we would have stopped them. For the few spectacular catches that were made by our receivers, we dropped too many passes as you pointed out. You are totally correct.
