Would be great if we could mirror this success in Lacrosse. Same pool of student athletes really.

Coach Ellis is on her 23rd year at W&M and found a recipe for success.

As for lacrosse, we haven't found someone like Coach Ellis.

The ladies did it again this afternoon. The red-hot Tribe defeated a good Northeastern team, 2-1 with a golden goal in overtime! Eighth victory in a row to run season record to 11-5...would think they will be ranked nationally this week.

Team is playing sensational defense combined with opportunistic offense..

Anyone know why we only play each conference foe once? Seems like the field hockey schedule is long enough, and the conference is small enough, that you could cycle through it twice

Ended up being a big loss to a very good Delaware team, 5-1. We will owe them one in the conference tourney.

Yeah, they felt that they owed us one for beating them in last year's CAA tourney. (It also kept them out of the NCAA tourney, unjustly so). So now that they have that out of their system, and beat us so handily, maybe we can surprise them again in the CAA tourney.

Wow. After controlling the entire 4th quarter, we give up a goal with 1:30 left in the game. Down 1-0.

Edit: Final 1-0 Northeastern

RE: Tribe Field Hockey
That is a total, total bummer!!!! What a huge letdown on the season after coming back so strong after a slow start, and even earning a #23 ranking.

This loss probably cost the team an NCAA berth. They might have made it if they had made the final and then lost to higher ranked Delaware -- but they probably have no chance after losing in the semis (I hope I'm wrong). Remember, Delaware lost in the finals last year (to us) and weren't invited (and they had won a national championship just a year or two earlier than that).

Either way, though, thanks to the team for another exciting season! Congrats to Christie Van de Kamp for her second straight Defender of the Year award!

No at-large as expected. Delaware disrespected and matches up at 3-seed UVA. At least they didnt make the CAA go to the play-in round...

RE: Tribe Field Hockey
Yeah. Only 18 teams - and 4 of them have to play in play-in games. 6 ACC teams and 4 Big 10 teams. That leaves only 8 slots for everybody else. Those two leagues have a stranglehold on the bids and other ("lesser") conferences can forget it. We lost to a bunch of those teams this year (although we did beat 4th seed Louisville). Michigan is in and we beat them last year at their place. Anyway, it would be more fair if they just made it 16 teams (which would probably mean one less ACC team and one less Big 10 team -- and every other league could just absolutely forget about an at-large bid).

Go Delaware!

RE: Tribe Field Hockey
Congratulations to Tribe field hockey and Coach Ellis for landing as a recruit next fall, The Washington Post All-Metro Field Hockey Player of the Year, Maddie McGaughey of Langley (VA) High School, an All-Star midfielder for all four high school years. Announced yesterday in the Post Sports Section with a big color photograph.

Article noted that Maggie "was a step above the competition as she led Langley to its first state championship. The William & Mary recruit had 16 goals and 7 assists as she powered the Saxons to a 20-1-1 record."
