I can't tell you what our AD will decide to do, but its definitely enforceable. The contract has a Force Majeure clause that voids the contract if it becomes IMPOSSIBLE to play the game. It is far from impossible for Miami to get on a plane and come to Jonesboro to play the game. They are choosing not to. If FAU and FIU play games they will have no leg to stand on claiming that they couldn't play the game.
I don't know if stAte wants to go down that road. If you call out Miami for not playing or paying, you would look like the bad guy. Doesn't matter if the game is in Arkansas, they will get empathy because of the massive hurricane. Irma will hit Miami first so you can't compare FSU, UCF, or USF. You could compare FAU and FIU but even then I bet in a social media world, stAte would lose the argument.
Bingo
I definitely don't think our administration should "call out" Miami, but especially if FAU and FIU play football games, there is nothing unreasonable about holding Miami to the buyout.

I dont care if I come off as insensitive or not!
What do you do when theres a hurricane bearing down on your city? You evacuate.
What does FEMA, NOAA, every expert tell you to do? Evacuate.
Given the opportunity to evacuate, stay in Arkansas/Memphis on A-state's dime (remember A-state was paying 300k to help Miami's travel costs), and or play the game on Friday. Miami decided to not play. My god if the city gets wiped out at least you save the 150 people associated with the football program from being in a hurricane.
If either of my two sons were given the opportunity for a guaranteed evacuation with the football team. I'd say, "Go. Get out of the storm." You can't play the "things are more important than football card" and then stay in the path of a hurricane! Nothing is more than important than your life. What is the football team going to do, make a human chain and block the winds from hitting the town. Get the eff out of south Florida.
I've never lived through a hurricane and probably never will. Because given the opportunity I would evacuate!
I've lived through multiple tornadoes and if given the advanced warning as you do with hurricanes, I would evacuate!
Turning down the chance to play on Friday...well there's all you need to know about why they cancelled the game.

Ours doesn't. Contract stipulates that if Miami can travel to Jonesboro they have to pay up

RE: Miami at stAte cancelled
Someone posted this idea on our board:
Reschedule StAte@GS for September 30th
Reschedule UNH@GS for October 7th
Reschedule Miami @ StAte for October 7th
That would work out better for us because even if we have our game this week the attendance might take a huge hit.

Many will evacuate or seek shelter - with their families. In South Florida, unfortunately there are not a lot of options for evacuating 9 million people.
Lastly, this is an massive impending natural disaster vs. a football game. Get a grip.

Astate has released a statement that makes it very clear that they are not happy.
ESPN presented Miami the option of moving the game up to earlier in the week and the Hurriacane declined.

If we believe that the game would be cancelled if it were Miami @ USC you would be right.
But we don't really believe that. We believe that Miami @ USC would be going forward....with a hurricane storyline and poignant videos of hurricane heros to spice it all up.
We all know how the college football caste system works, even if we are pretending we don't.
So get a grip.

Think they have it hitting South Florida Saturday evening, so i would guess they would be a little bit distracted.

FIU improvising to get game with Alcorn State in by moving game location.
FAU still traveling to Wisconsin.
FSU hosting ULM still a go.
Florida moves home opener against Northern Colorado to 12 PM Saturday.
UCF moves conference opener against Memphis to Friday.
USF still traveling to UConn.
Does anyone really believe Miami wouldn't find a way to get the game in if they had a game against a major program this week?

I'm lost.
If they evacuate as a team to wherever they don't know when they can get back, which is exactly the situation if they had played.
If they don't evacuate they are trusting the judgment of these players to stay in the region to not put themselves in a dangerous situation.

This is the thing I love about the internet.
Its not possible for you to be concerned about a dangerous life-threatening Cat 5 hurricane AND an unnecessary multi-million dollar economic hit on your own city at the same time.
You must be a psychopath if you are thinking of both. You must be an evil rotten MONSTER who only cares about a football game!
I watched the live video from St. Maarten today and that is one scary storm. Everyone should be very, very, very, concerned. VERY!
But that does not preclude dealing with all other things.
