Taylor runs the plays sent in from the sidelines.
Taylor didn't have time to take deep shots down the field.
We were missing 2 Sr starters and a third back-up at WR.
Georgia's OLB's were so big, mobile and athletic we had a hard time "attacking the edges".
Anthony Flory played a heck of a game, He tied with Boggs & Stout with 6 tackles and had more primary stops than both of them..
Fehr was credited with 1 tackle.

I'm not blaming Taylor for running the plays as called. He is given the option to keep the ball on a read play however and multiple times he could've kept the ball, he didn't; that read isn't predetermined which is what I was referring to.

Taylor had plenty of time to take shots downfield, the receivers weren't creating enough separation on dig routes for him to feel comfortable throwing the ball.

Lastly, any time Taylor attacked the edges he was able to pick-up positive yards. The point of attacking the edges with the QB rather than the RB is to take the linebackers out of the play by forcing them to make a decision.

I wasn't discrediting Flory's play. I was crediting Fehr for the number of plays I saw him in on, his play on the TE for the interception, and his lone credited tackle where he met Swift in the hole and promptly drove him back into the ground with no help. Those plays occurred in about 3/4 of one quarters time.

Those tall, athletic OLB's made it very difficult to throw the ball and run to the edges. Much of the time Taylor was running free it was after handing off. The DE or OLB was already pursing the ball carrier. Hannon did a fine job snapping the ball for a true freshman, but he was also giving up naerly 60 lbs to the NT and getting shoved into the backfield on most every snap. We had to give him help, which means one of those other big guys had a 1 on 1. Not good. I'd like to chart the time Taylor had to throw before he started to scramble, which he had to do a lot. It's easy to sit in the stands and second guess things. Stuff happens really fast on the field.

I don't believe it was ever in the game plan to try to go vertical on Georgia due to the greenhorns on the interior of the line. Taylor having open room to run occurred also when he kept the ball because the defenders were keying on the running backs; defenders that included the outside linebackers. The fact of the matter is that he had more opportunities to run the ball that weren't taken. If the defenders were that worried about Lamb running they would have followed even after him handing the ball off. This tells me they were not concerned with his running.

Even on the fumble after the long run, there was plenty of time to throw, there was just no where to go with the ball. The game plan needs to be tweaked to account for how opponents will be keying on the swing pass going forward. Should open up the middle of the field for the slot.

How about you give Satterfield a call and explain all this to him. I'm sure he will be happy to hear your analysis and welcome your expertise on how he should straighten out his play calling and gameplan. I'm amazed at all the experts out there who have never coached a down in their life.

Who is to say I haven't coached? Paul Johnson never played college football, yet it seems he found himself a way to become qualified to speak on such football things.

Football is logical. It doesn't take someone who plays to understand the nuances of the game and what affects the decision making of a player or a coach. I stand by my analysis:

1. App tried to let the vertical routes develop but the receivers couldn't gain separation.

2. App had success running to the edges when Lamb kept the ball on read option plays.

3. App does not have the ability to go vertical in most cases because the receivers can not get past the defensive backs

4. The defense is going to possibly be the best of the FBS era

Deal with it.

Three of the losses to Clemson, Tenn & Georgia and his first four as a true freshman. Since the Liberty game he is 27-6, 20-2 vs the Sunbelt.

The main reason we couldn't run or throw the ball - the Georgia Defense.
The App defense had 45 plays where they gave up 3 yards or less. That's an impressive stat against a really good SEC team. On the long gains we had some breakdowns and on 3 of their long runs some holding - as noted by ESPN announcers - that was not called.

App fans need to temper their expectations with the reality we're in our 4th season of FBS.

The thing about opinions is that everyone as one, and no one has a monopoly on the best perception of a situation.

The SBC and AppState are building thier brand. I personally don't think it helps to take a beating and then go undefeated in conference play. The perceived conference strength is why our SOS is so low this year. We should focus on high end G5's and lower end P5's until we have the talent to hang all 4 quarters with the likes of UGA, PSU, Clemson, VT, etc.

As for Taylor, he is not off limits for criticism because he QB's a team that has won a lot of games during his tenure. I think Taylor himself would acknowledge his weaknesses. The announcers calling the GA game I believe described Taylor as having "a slow wind-up". These things are not new. I think he is a great leader and a great representative of AppState, but he overachieves vs. his talent level. That's a tremendous credit to him in my opinion, but it also limits us and there is nothing wrong with saying it. It's why after watching TL play for 4 years I cringe when someone suggests he throw a long ball. I think I can count on one hand how many deep balls were caught with the receiver in stride.

I don't see any one on this board being hyper critical of Taylor the way folks on Yosef tend to be (which is why I think DG is getting so hyped on the subject here). Taylor is a quality quarterback for G5 competition and wins with his mind. He has admitted as much when discussing his style of play.

Pointing out his limitations is not necessarily criticizing as much as it is analyzing where deficiencies currently are with this team, and more specifically, the offense. Again, App hasn't had a legitimate threat to go deep since Sean Price was dismissed and a lot of that is due to the step up in competition.

The crux of this particular game was twofold: the receivers were unable to get open on deep routes and Taylor was unable to step up in the pocket due to pressure up the middle. Personally, I think the running game would've been more effective had he kept the ball more often. As I stated previously, despite the "big, athletic, rangy" outside linebackers of UGA, Lamb managed to average 10 yards per carry (sans the fumble).

Well, have you coached at a level above Saturday morning rec league? Huh? At least Johnson learned the coaching business by starting out at the bottom as an assistant at a 1A HS to supplement his pay as a PE teacher. What is your resume?

I don't agree with most of what Eric posts, but one doesn't have to have been a coach to understand the game and have an educated view. I've never been in politics but can point out the pros and cons of situations, never played on the PGA, never played baseball past little league, but can hold an intelligent conversation about most subjects. If doing something is a prerequisite for commenting on a subject no there would be Little to no dialogue on here.

To begin, I left the MMB several years ago. Far too much lunacy over there for me. Secondly, having an opinion about what you perceive in someone's ability is fine. My issue is with analysis of game plans and plays without fully understanding the decision making process. Unlike golf, baseball, basketball ect, today's football (esp the passing game) is very complex. Formations, rush packages , how coverages are disguised, changed and react to routes all affect the success or lack thereof a play. Not to mention how the strengths and weaknesses of your personel againt the guy across from them figures into decisions. My point being is this isn't as simple as some try to make it out. Although most of us have a rudimentary understanding of the game, we would have a difficult time grasping what is going on in gameplanning. Please be very clear, I'm not implying I am any more knowledgeable than anyone else here. But I do know from past experiences it's not as cut and dry as many seem to want to make it.
