RE: 2020 MBB Recruiting
The biggest unknown and most interesting piece is what kind of player will we see in Mehkel when he is no longer in the shadow of Nate and Andy. Despite the limited playing time, it has to have had a big development impact going against those two in practice everyday. It is his time finally. Will he embrace it and emerge? Don't imagine he stuck around for two years on the bench, clear across the country from home, solely because of a W&M degree.

I agree with you about Harvey. I think he can be a good rim protector on defense and garbage player around the rim on offense. If we can get the upside out of Wight at the 4, I think we will have an interesting, but inexperienced team. Assume Loewe and Scott get a lot of minutes, that leaves Blair and this year's recruits and last year's frosh. I'm sure someone will emerge.

In addition to Wake decommit Trey James, Coach Kemp following Wake Forest decommit PF Jaylon Gibson 6'11 188lbs Raleigh, NC. He is a pretty hot commodity and seems to be newly followed by a bunch of coaches at all levels.

Not sure how it factors in, but Kemp just started following the Wake Forest AD. That plus the two decommitted Wake players in the last few days makes a whole lot of Wake Forest going on in Kemp's timeline.

Leveraging his boss's COY honors to gain recruits?

Good read, he seems like a good get. The 57% FT shooting is a little concerning

Big ding is his decision-making, according to the scout. Coaches will work with him on that...can't coach his physicality, effort on both ends, and drive.

Bingo. Most of his dings are experience and coaching issues. His pros are traits that you either have or you don't. With maturation and development, he has the potential to be special.

A good write-up. I agree that most dings should disappear with better coaching and experience. Native ability should be there. Love comments on aggressiveness and m2m defensive style. I hope that 6' 1" isn't an issue.

I'm not sure he's really a point guard. Looks more like a scorer rather than a classic distributor.

Even if he's a natural gunner, learning how to set plays, distribute, rebound and play as 1 of 5 is something our staff can coach up. We just saw the special where Phil Jackson had to teach MJ how to share the ball after Collins basically put the ball in Jordan's hands.

If he resists coaching, has trouble in class, or gets attested, then my heart will sink.

Depending on the quality of their teammates, a lot of high school PGs won’t get noticed if they don’t have at least somewhat of a score first mentality. That observation doesn’t concern me in the slightest. If he doesn’t learn how to adjust his game with a more talented group of teammates, then I’ll be concerned.

We're super-analyzing, surely way too early, a 17 year old young man.

All I see is a player with lots of talent...let Coach Fischer and his staff get to work on him. From the videos one sees lots of raw talent.

You are right, of course. But what else to do on a athletics message board where there are no new sports?
