Monitoring Yuri Covington's offers and Twitter followers has me scratching my head. Where are the other schools? Limited offers and no new mid major assistants following him. He is a high level athlete and high level talent. He's fast, can defend, and a more natural scorer than Barnes. He also has that combo of speed and ball handling that makes him difficult to press. What am I missing?
Offers from Canisius (6hrs away), North Texas (20hrs away), Bryant (7hrs away), W&M (3hrs away). Assistants from St. Bonnie's, Wagner, New Hampshire, and UMBC followed him shortly before we offered. Not sure where they fall.
No idea how he feels about W&M or our coaches. Distance from home, quality of education, and level of play makes me feel, IMO, we would have to be the front runner with T-minus a month from signing day. I guess prep school could be an option, but he has already transferred once and may not be interested in that again.

Saw that St. Viator won its 1st round game. Connor Kochera finished with 31 points and 8 Rebounds.

So all 3 assistants, our director of b-ball ops, and Christy Milkereit are all now following Yuri (Jake’s mom should probably be our recruiting coordinator with her awesome enthusiasm for the Tribe).

He’s definitely a top target and hopefully not far from committing.

Kemp is obviously interested given the way he has reached out to accounts related to Andre but it remains to be seen if Andre reciprocates that interest - he hasn’t followed back though he doesn’t follow a lot.

According to Verbal Commits it appears that Miss St is out of scholarships now and Houston has signed a C already with only 1 scholarship left. Auburn has offers out to two 4* C and he is their third choice.

So it looks like his current choices are us, UTSA, and Loyola Marymount. UTSA is a bad team in a conference that isn't any better than the CAA, while Marymount is a bad team in a better conference. Since nothing has happened with UTSA since June, would it stand to reason that it could be down to us and Marymount. So I say W&M. Of course, there is the small matter that we haven't offered him yet.

I'm saying this with no clue to our or his level of interest, but there is a certain degree of gamesmanship in giving out offers this time of year. An offer puts an available kid on peer schools radars. Andre is absolutely high mid major level, yet he has no high mid major east coast offers. Perhaps it's been floated that he wants to stay west. Offering him too soon puts the flag up that he is considering mid major east coast schools and would open the door to any A10, CUSA, or CAA school that needs a 2020 big.

Regarding Andre, perhaps the hold up on an offer is getting his academic provenance sorted. He is from the UK, is listed on the Scotland prep roster in PA at one point, and at Compass prep (a basketball factory Arizona prep school). His sponsers/mentors seem to be from Dallas, TX. No telling how messy his transcripts are. If his remaining suitors are LMU, UTSA, and potentially us, perhaps being on east coast time after being out west would be something that interests him while trying to stay connected with family in London. With his Dallas connections, I wouldn't discount UTSA.
I see that Jake's mom is now recently following Andre as well. Does she have insider info? Is she conducting the Texas to Williamsburg train? Is she perhaps a Tribe Talk reader?

Probably more likely she is getting the info through Jake. I'm sure, in the regular conversations between Jake and the Coaches, they are telling him here is who we are going strong after right now.

HOWEVER, if she joins the board, I'm all for it.

I saw that tweet too, but he doesn't really fit the PG/PF mould we have been looking at. He is a 6'4 G/SF that looks more like a low D1/D2 level player. Not to mention, doesn't seem to be any Twitter connection between the player and coaches. I think this is AAU coach wishful thinking.

Several schools, nationwide, have pulled their coaches off the recruiting trail. Looks like there will be considerable "online"/phoneline recruiting going on before the Spring signing date.
