2020 MBB Recruiting
MrJ's quick evals of the offers that mean absolutely nothing...

1) G. Madsen--high level scorer. Reminds me a little of high school Marcus Thornton with his ability to generate offense at all 3 levels. I really hope we can sneak him by the majors now or when he joins his brother here in the secondary transfer market.
2) Stone-- love his size, physicality, and versatility. Looks like he does a little of everything very well and I think could develop into a big matchup problem in the CAA. I hope he has interest.
3) M. Madsen-- Very crafty with the ball and looks like he has the potential to control a game. Unclear on his ability to defend, but has demonstrated an ability to score at a high clip. He reminds me potentially of a John Elmore type, If his offensive development follows with him.
4) Murrell--Sky is the limit. Oozes potential. Rail thin, but already possess elite length and athleticism. High majors are gaining interest. He could be a HM project or a MM difference maker. What does he want?
5) Brown-- love his length, willingness to bang, and old school post play. He is a true center in a world where everyone wants to be a stretch 4. The classic flying under the radar recruit, he could be very impactful in a few years.
6) Smith-- Supremely skilled for a big with great size. Not overly fast or athletic, but beats guys that are. I like the idea of bringing in a legacy player. Could fill the vacated Van Vliet spot nicely.
7) Kochera-- tough kid and great shooter. Lack of quickness worries me. I need to see more of him to decide if he is anything more than a catch and shoot guy in college.

Little wary that we have not offered an uber athletic wing. The kind that we had finally started to make inroads with, ala Pierce and Audige.

RE: 2020 MBB Recruiting
Hate to go down the keeping up with the Joneses road, but unless we fill a wing spot with athleticism, we will have no one to match up with the likes of the 6'7 kid Elon got this week. We can't return to the slow, unathletic teams of old, no matter how much basketball IQ, shooting ability, or level of gym ratness.

I think the staff is continuing the same targeted offer strategy. Next offer up after an original target falls out of the picture. I think Brown was offered because Murrell appeared no longer viable.

Say NO to a player who wants to use us to transfer to a bigger program. Just go after players who really want to spend their next 4 years in Williamsburg.

We have to keep aiming high (or higher), not settle for someone who just wants to stay here. There are a lot of lower level players who wouldn't mind staying here. That won't help us improve.

The obvious point was I'd rather have a stud for 3 years who "used us to move up" vice a player who sticks with us for 4 years but contributed little in terms of production in games. No disrespect intended, Zeb.

Reece Brown would definitely qualify as the athletic wing we are in need of.

His shot form seems to have a quirky hitch to it but man can he soar and attack the rim and at 6-8/6-9 with that vertical ... look out especially as he continues to grow and get stronger.

Lipscomb seems like a great distributor who can score too.

I love Lipscomb's frame, unselfish play, and ability to score if needed. I also like that he is a multi year captain and undisputed leader of a very talented SSSA team. Very attractive for a tribe team that is difficult to pin down where the on-court leadership will come from.

Except we haven't offered him. Think we're too late to the party. Richmond and Northeastern have offered.

Noel Brown picks up an offer from Fairfield.

Coach Fischer has started following the head coaches at Cheshire Academy and Vermont Academy. Coach Kemp has recently followed players from both schools: Asa Beyah (Cheshire) and CJ Jones (Vermont).
