This may make less sense while playing at Legion Field, but it is good to have this policy in place if we happen to move into a new BJCC stadium and seating becomes an issue.
It's "fair" to charge for a childs ticket where a seat is not used? That makes absolutely no sense. If you are bringing a baby to the game you most certainly are holding him/her and taking up NO seat. I found this out at the fifth home basketball game last year. We showed up, season tickets in hand with our 14 month old son. We were told he had to have a ticket. I questioned it and was told to go to the ticket office and speak with them. Sure enough it was true. I told them he would be sitting in our laps. The ***** in the ticket office, who runs that office, was a complete smart arse. This is the 4th encounter Ive had with this pr*ck. He lied to me and told me it was mandated by CUSA and UAB had no control. Then he got smart with my wife and asked what the little bubble stroller was (its a small stroller that folds up....its obvious what it is.) We had brought it to previous games and set it in the corner near women's restroom.....completely out of the way. When he asked what it was in the biggest smart arse tone I wanted to tell him it was about to be his enema. There was NO warning in ticket brochure's, and no signs that there was a new policy. I was told that he needed a season ticket, but just buy any of them available it didn't matter because he really wont be using the seat. REALLY????? I've been a season ticket holder from day ONE of this program. The way the pr*ck in the ticket office treats customers is a complete joke. As far as the "mandate" from the CUSA offices I called them and they said there is NO such policy. Each school has their own policy. I just bought road tix to Southern Miss. There policy is children under 3 are free. If they DO use a seat it is 0nly 10 bucks. We have two going....my grandchild who will be 1 in November, and my son who will celebrate his 2nd birthday in Hattiesburg on the road with our Blazers. I bought one child's ticket. Why cant they charge a lower ticket price for kids under 2 or 3? They will lose a lot of ticket sales from families that cant afford 2-3 tickets for there kids. Just another example of our completely inept AD and ticket office. GO BLAZERS!!

This is just another example of that. And it won't be the last.
As far as revenue goes, this knuckleheaded policy will hurt more than it will help. The program needs to be as family friendly as possible.

They know this which is why they are doing it.
Does anyone really think that Watts or Ingram give a rip about doing anything positive for UAB athletics?

The lies are disturbing. We have been told a bunch of similar lies about the reason for the policy for both basketball and football. Not even an ounce off truth to them.

This is just patently false. Like, completely made up. Not even a little bit true.

No it does not. You didn't even bother, so here, I've done it for you, links and all:
Charlotte: "Everyone two (2) years of age and older must have a valid ticket to gain entry to Jerry Richardson Stadium. Admission for youth under the age of two is free of charge. "
FIU: "FIU Athletics requires everyone 2 years old and above to have a ticket for admission into all FIU Athletic events. Children under the age of 2 with free admission are not allowed to occupy an individual seat and must sit on the ticket holder's lap."
FAU: "All persons 3 years of age and older must have a ticket for admission to FAU football games. Children 2 & under do not need a ticket, but must sit on someone's lap."
Marshall: "Everyone age three (3) years and older must have a ticket to enter Joan C. Edwards Stadium and The Henderson Center."
LaTech: "All children 4 years or older must have a ticket. Any children younger than 4 years old get in for free."
MTSU: "Everyone who enters our facilities must have a ticket to enter EXCEPT children under the age of three."
North Texas: "Children under the age of 3 years old do not require a ticket."
Old Dominion: "All individuals must possess a valid ticket for entry into the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Children under two (2) years old are admitted free of charge for most events, as long as they sit on a lap."
Rice: "All persons age three (3) and over must have a ticket for admission to Rice University sporting events."
Southern Miss: "Infants (under 2 years of age) in arms are admitted free with the understanding that they sit in a parent's lap and do not occupy a seat."
UAB: "All persons regardless of age must have a ticket."
UTEP: "Children two years old or younger are admitted free (child must sit on lap of ticket patron accompanying the child)."
UTSA: "Ages three and up need a ticket for admission, but ages two and below do not require a ticket if they are able to sit on a lap."
WKU: "Everyone age three (3) years and older must have a ticket to enter any WKU Athletic Stadium and E.A. Diddle Arena."
Old Dominion is the ONLY school aside from UAB in the entire conference that is not explicit in allowing infants free admission, and their policy is a lot more open than UAB's is.

This. This is the info I sought out when I was first told about this back in the spring. This alone should have made them at least consider a change at the time, but it didn't. There is no reason we shouldn't have a similar policy.
First, these are the sites I searched. If I'm wrong, that's cool. But to insinuate that I'm lying as far as looking is another.

I noticed you didn't "check" me when I stated that the NCAA has no such rule. So obviously I at least was trying to see where they were lying. Im glad you found more info than I could, but pick your mike up, dust it off, and direct it in a better direction.
Good research though. I kept clucking links and that's all I found. Did you email this info to the ticket office or just posted it here after you found it. Maybe directing your mike towards Ingram and the ticket office will help.

I'm pretty sure they either already knew this was a widespread policy or at least presumed it to be the case. Everyone I've talked to online says their school has some kind of free or discount policy for kids under 3, and none of them had to look it up. I find it hard to believe the ticket office / athletic department knows less than the general public about who typically pays for tickets and who doesn't.
As for why they are trying to blaze a trail on this, you've got me there.

As much as I don't like it, it's the norm for 14 teams in the conference to charge full price and every body needs a ticket. No matter the age. I think Rice is the only 1 who allows 3 and under in free. I forget but I think it's UTEP or UTSA that charges kids 13 and under half price.
This is after calling the ticket office and talking to a superviser. The "NCAA rule" answer is bs. I checked and corrected whoever was on the phone who finally put me In touch with a ticket office supervisor and explained why the "everybody needs a ticket" rule.
A search of each teams ticket site shows that. I hate it and they should've let everyone know instead of having to find out this way. But I think enough people calling have set somethings in motion. Apparently they have gotten a lot of calls about it.

Southern Miss does not require children 3 and under to have a ticket if they are sitting in the lap of an adult. Even if they DO require a ticket it is only 10 bucks. I know because I just bought 8 to the road game at USM and we will have kids going with us.

I know they're full of it. Trust me.
The answer I got was "We're trying to follow the same policies as the upper echelon teams in C-USA." BS
Then the person I talked to on the phone finally threw Ingram under the bus and stated that these rules went in with the new administration. I asked did he mean Watts or the AD and he said the AD.

At what point does Ingram get rewarded with loud boos whenever he is in public?
Shouldn't ones actions determine whether or not he is applauded or booed?
Wouldn't an AD who wants to harm the program probably do the exact things that Ingram is doing?

Well, as long as we have a president that doesn't give a rip about UAB we probably will have an AD that doesn't care either.

He was pulled out of left field by a University president desperate to make sure that football stayed gone for good, and everyone I've spoken with off the record at the AD's office feels he came in with explicit orders to get rid of anyone in the athletic department who said anything about trying to bring football back.
Aaaannnnndddd he couldn't do that right either

I've heard a few different versions of this same story. The only difference being the original reason the ticket office gave, but each story ends with someone finally admitting it's the AD's policy and that's it. And I know the AD has personally admitted it is his policy. How many families have been lied to so far? Has to be in the hundreds, if not thousands.

As one BT poster has asked many times, "Why is it so hard to be a Blazer fan?" It seems some impediment or other is constantly placed in our way, usually by the local or system administration. Are we the only fan base that has small children?

I will go ahead and apologize for how I came off, it wasn't necessary. I am genuinely sorry.
I did email that information to Mark Ingram, Jay Anderson, and Marla Townsend. I received replies from Ingram and Anderson. Ingram indicated it was reviewed at length two years ago and he is asking for further review at the next meeting of external staff (though I'm not really familiar with who or what this meeting is) and Anderson said he is elevating my concerns within the department though he expects the policy to remain as is for the current season.

That is only partly true.
