RE: Will the Arkansas State Red Wolves Defeat Its Out-of-Conference Curse?

It will certainly help.
Perhaps the biggest advantage from letting the other SBC teams tote the load in raising the profile of the SBC, is the A-State coaches get to see more of your play book, and your coaches not so much of theirs.
I really don't think there would have been any changes if Anderson & Company had beaten UCA last year, and I think the thinking among the A-State brass is that almost any coach in America not named Blake Anderson probably would have. I was told one of his bosses said they should have beaten UCA with a chimpanzees as HC, and not really a smart one at that. Guess they want to see if a chimp can help coordinate an offense and coach QB's.

SMU is obviously the biggie.
The SMU's of the world are not the problem. We have done just fine against G5 opponents out of conference. The problem is that we don't play Wake Forrest or Vandy when we play P5 opponents. We play Auburn, USC, Alabama, Oregon, etc. and those are tough even at home. We split with SMU the last time we had a home and home. Split with Tulsa. Won 3 of last 5 with Memphis.
Wins over Wake Forest and Vandy just don't move the needle for G5 programs. It's wins over schools like the others you named that do that. That being said, even a close loss to a WF or a Vandy is preferable to a blow out loss to a P5 powerhouse. The most important thing is to be competitive in EVERY appearance against those P5 teams. One MUST avoid getting blown out in P5 matchups because whenever a G5 team is blown out and totally embarrassed by a P5 team, it solidifies the national perception of that G5 program as a piss ant program that was playing out of its league.

I don't disagree, but there is a difference between playing Alabama, USC, and Oregon and playing other P5 teams.
We keep scheduling games against the Alabama's of the world, who blow out everyone, and don't schedule games against the Ole Miss of the world, who could be beaten by anyone. As long as we insist on getting nearly 2 million for guarantee games, those are the P5 teams we'll end up playing though.
