Isn't that usually how it is for most first year head coaches?

No. Usually a good first year head coach injects life in a program and they improve on the previous season. Your coach took you from 5 wins to 3 wins. Our first year coach took us from 9 wins to 14. He also beat South Carolina while coaching at the Citadel. You can tell pretty quickly if a coach has the goods. Yours does not. And you know it and most of your fans knew he was a bad choice when hired.

You do realize your coach had head coaching experience before he came to JMU were as our coach was an offensive coordinator right? Its very idiotic to try an compare the two. Also Coach Mo inherited a team that was divided due to the firing of our previous coach. He also lost the starting QB due to transferring to UVA to follow the old coach. We lost multiple starters to either transfering, getting kicked off the team or injury. Your coach walked into a nice situation where i'm pretty sure he didn't have to inject too much life into a 9 win team. With what Coach Mo inherited I doubt your coach could of done much better.

You might want to do some research on first year head coaches. I'll help you out and give you some examples. You can use google to find a lot more

Bronco Mendenhall
First year at UVA 2016 he went 2-10. Last year UVA went 4-9. He had an excellent tenure at BYU as a head coach. Is he considered a bad coach?
By your explanation of good first year coaches he is.

George O'leary
First year at UCF 2004 he went 0-11. The previous year UCF was 3-9. In 2005 they went 8-3. Won multiple conference championships and won a couple of BCS bowls. Is he a bad coach also?

No one should ever determine whether a coach is good or bad off his first year. There are way too many variables to make a sound judgement.

The addition of Duke grad transfer QB Sirk is huge for them. His running is just as potent as his passing.

For the early WAG I will lean towards a wild shootout.
ECU 52
JMU 45

You honestly think our defense is going to allow 45 points in Trott's second year? We allowed 42 to unh on a bunch of trash scores and 58 to unc. Ecu is not unc.
Wrong on both accounts.

This JMU team on the other hand is close to a well oiled machine. Unless JMU lays an egg they should be able to beat this ECU team "this year". JMU boat is steady at full steam ahead while ECU boat just navigated out of rough seas and trying to get its bearings.

With 7 new P5 transfers JMU probably has more P5 transfers than ECU. Both teams have question marks, and neither will be a well oiled machine in the 1st game. While I think JMU can, and will win, if JMU does lose one 1 game, this is the most likely one.

I'll do my usual wait till a day or 2 before to do a prediction.
-Want to hear more reports on how summer camp is progressing for both teams
-Secondly, one or both teams could suffer a summer camp injury/injuries that could change things.
-Third, want to wait for a 1-2 day out weather forecast. Even though its a night game, if its a late Aug heat wave, heat & high humidity I think could benefit ECU more with the 22 extra schollies. Rain on the other hand, I think would benefit JMU more than ECU. ECU was a pass happy offense with a weak run game last season. Don't know if that will change much this year..

I'm not scared, ECU will keep it close until the middle of the 3rd, which is when we will push it out to a 21 point lead only to give back a trash score late in the 4th. JMU 42 ECU 28.

This will be closer than it should be due to some rust from on both sides or the ball.

If they are weak at linebacker we've got Cardon and Marcus to pound them with. That's real bad news for them.

Add in Kloo and Carlton running routes that get picked up by LBs and Schor will slice them up in the seams.

RE: JMU vs ECU prediction
Anything before the Villanova game last year is tough to use for a defensive comparison for this game. If you look at our 4 playoff games - conceivably our 4 hardest games of the year - COMBINED we gave up 60 points. In 4 games. Against 4 of the best teams in all of FCS (including 5-time defending champs). One of those TDs came with 10 seconds left in the NC. Another one came with 20 seconds left against Villanova. Take those out and we gave up 46 points over 4 games against the #2, #3, #6, and #11 teams in FCS. This defense is arguably going to be better than that the one from a year ago. Yeah, ECU is a better offense than those and we may have some early rust to work off, but I find it hard to believe that some are predicting ECU scores in the 40s.

ECU - 55
JMU - 28

I think this game will mirror the JMU/UNC game. The Dukes may take an early lead or strike first blood. But ECU will run away with it late.

I hope the JMU fans who make the trip to Greenville have a good time and enjoy the Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium experience!

It won't.

Our defense the first 2/3 of the season was as bad as ECU's was last year.

You all have a starting QB who is guaranteed to go 2nd overall in the 2018 draft? If so, then sure, it'll look like our game against UNC last year.

Trubisky was a ridiculous reach at #2 in a TERRIBLE draft for QB's.

Who we will likely have starting at QB for us isn't too shabby, either. 01-wingedeagle

Good luck to you.

Nope. He thinks 52.

No way in hell.....
That's funny UNC said the exact same thing in 2013 when we put 55 on them and said it again in 2014 when we put 70 on them.

Coach Mo and his offensive staff are not equal to that of Ruffin McNeil and more importantly Lincoln Reilly. Plus Your QB and WRs in those UNCheat games were the best y'all have possibly ever had or at least since the David Gerard or Jeff Blake days.

Auburn transfer Tim Irvin started ONE GAME for Auburn. He's also 5'9" 190 lbs. That's almost as terrifying as gimpy old Tom Sirk.
