That would be my move. You have threathend the US and now have a reasonably viable chance of hitting the US with a nuclear weapon. If your the president, is it really wise to allow the launching of unannounced ICBM's in the general direction of the US and Japan? The action is arguably defensive and if you shoot them down----you essentially prevent them from accurately testing their reentry vehicle and moving the program forward.

You don't shoot down anything until you have to do it. Once they see you do it they can start devising methods to defeat it.

then keep them busy constantly devising methods.

Translation to me---the next missile test will be met with military response. Placating has not worked. We deal with this the right way---we probably solve our Iranian problem at the same time. The time line is such that we can no longer kick this can down the road. Its also a message to China---last chance, act now or get out of the way.

Revealing capabilities and preventing NK from furthering nuke program or actually striking the US is far more valuable than an unused capability.

I suspect thats a very low priority. My guess is we are currently deep into the process of developing next gen laser based anti missile capabilities. We are pretty close (probably already there) just based on what is publicly available. I suspect these will be produced and deployed VERY quickly. Laser based systems are going to be much easier to to use because its simply a matter of raw power. Hitting the target is MUCH easier with a laser weapon. Laser weapons move at the speed of light. Firing solutions are as simple as point and shoot. No need to lead or calculate movement. If you can point and track you can kill.

Thank goodness Trump is the Prez. He will stop them. Lol
