It wasn't 12 guys on the field, it was too many guys on the right side of the kickoff team . . . which was clearly incorrect. Screw job!

Ah, good ole UT-Austin hi-jinx. Two years ago, Kevin Hervey made a three. It was ruled a two. By the time our coaches learned of the scoring error, the refs said too much time had passed to fix the mistake. Went to OT where we came up short.

I was watching that game and saw the three and the wrong score go up and thought they would change it but it didnt happen and we ran out of gas a little bit in the ot. that would have made for a 2 game win streak over them and would have been extra nice because that season the tea-sips were considered a better team than the one we beat last year.

1992: Led Auburn by two. Picked off an Auburn pass and returned it inside the AU 20. Less than three minutes left. We're gonna run it and make them use all their timeouts and then kick a FG to go up five. We fumble on the first play. Auburn kicks a FG on the final play to win 26-25.

A few years ago, we led #3 Florida the entire game. They score with about 2:00 left to tie the game. With bad field position, we choose to run out the clock. Gotta punt on 4th down. It's blocked and returned for a TD with :13 left.

And, farther back, (late 80's) we lost to Arkansas 9-7. They didn't score a TD. We missed a 25 yard field goal that would have won it. That kicker kicked in the NFL

I remember this game....we were still the indians...we won every statistical category except the final score, and was the last time we would lose to a Texas team for a LONG time. It was the same day that app beat Michigan.

2005 - Texas A&M
Hurricane Rita was coming so the game was moved to Thursday as they were expecting to have to evacuate the area by Saturday. 2005 was my first year at TXST, had just moved to San Marcos from Bryan/College Station. I remember the school advising students not to make the trip due to Rita, I also remember traffic at an absolute standstill on the other side of the highway while I had my side all to myself. Had a chance in the 4th quarter to pull within 6 but turned the ball over on downs on the goal line and ended up losing by 13.

2005 - Northern Iowa
"The knee".
Win and we're in the FCS championship game. After UNI scored to tie it, we had 1:27 left and a couple timeouts in our pocket but decided to take a knee in a 37-37 shootout in which neither defense was making many stops. Lost in OT.

This was very painful to watch as a Sun Belt fan . . .

That was Neal Brown's first year as OC. Many Troy fans remember that he had a difficult time understanding how to run the clock out from 2008-2009. It seems he's finally learned how now...

I would also like to have that botched goal-line fumble call back from last season's Clemson game. That should've taken a TD away from Clemson and given it to Troy, which could've resulted in the biggest upset of the year.

That Texas game was famous because they were top 5 in the country at the time, and A&M fans gave them hell for nearly losing to us. Next year, we roll into College Station and beat the Aggies, and Texas fans got their revenge.

The weird part about the games we want back, is that most of them, outside of a couple significant league losses happened long before the run of conference titles.

Strange enough, we were far more competitive in OOC games back when we struggled to win 5 games a season. Once we started winning 8 plus games a year, we began to get our brains beat in during OOC play. Especially against P5 teams. Thus, the game at SMU this year is probably the most critical OOC game we've faced as a program in a long time. It's a rare chance to prove ourselves against decent G5 competition away from home.

Tennessee would have been a much bigger deal given it was national TV on a Thursday night qnd the Vols a preseason top ten team. However that Auburn game sits in my craw to this day because we gave it away. We had a senior TB fumble away the ball diving into the endzone, missed a PAT, failed on 2 Pt conversion, had a wide open freshman RB drop a pass at the 3 which led to a missed 33 yard FG. We also failed to get on a Auburn muffed shotgun snap that rolled to inside their 5 yard midway through the 4th qtr. App out gained Auburn, had more TOP and the tunrovers were even. We basicall left 19 points on the field and allowed them to score on a 38 yard pass with 38 seconds left. Jerry Moore was known for using walk on kickers and this time it bit us in the rear

Love this thread. Hopefully you guys don't mind me posting, but for me it would be the 2010 Tennessee game. Our guy missed 5...yes 5 field goals before end of regulation. If he would have just made one of the we would have won...but instead lost in 2OT.

We almost beat Tennessee in 2012. I think it was like 55-48. They had no answer for the deep ball, but unfortunately neither did we.

Yep I remember watching that game thinking you guys had it. In fact, one of the guys I played with in high school Chris Williams caught one of those deep balls. Hopefully we'll start the Troy-UAB annual rivalry game back up in the coming years 04-cheers

RE: "Close Calls" You'd Like To Have Back
Losing the OT game vs. UGA in 2015 hands down. No telling what kind of effect that would have had on our recruiting and support. They are already not going to play us again for a LONG while, even though they won, imagine if we had beaten them--the optics among split loyalty fans and 3* (and maybe higher) Georgia recruits if they refused to play us again. The mind boggles.

RE: "Close Calls" You'd Like To Have Back
10) UTSA (2011) - UTSA 17 - GSU 14 OT - The first of three straight OT games in three consecutive weeks involving GSU, USA and UTSA playing each other.

9) Jaxksonville State (2011)- JSU 37 - GSU 21 - Game involved a blocked quick kick by GSU QB Drew Little. In the second half Albert Wilson (now of the KC Chiefs) catches a 53 yard pass and is 15 yards ahead of the nearest defender and blows a hamstring. Drew Little throws an interception 2 plays later.

8) Jacksonville State (2010) -#4 JSU 34 - GSU 27 OT - Maybe the most exciting game in GSU history. This was a week after Jacksonville State beat Ole Miss and was only our third game ever. Came down to 4th and Goal from the 2 in OT. Kelton Hill throws a pass to the end zone, its tipped and TE Arthur "Bully" Williams comes down with it. Ref waves it offsides. Great game and a true heartbreaker.

7) Arkansas State (2015) - Arkansas State 48 - GSU 34 - Score was even at 34 with 8 minutes remaining when GSU decided to GSU. Arkansas State scores two touchdowns late.

6) Arkansas State (2013) - Arkansas State 35 - GSU 33 - "Kelton Hill’s 70-yard touchdown pass to Albert Wilson pulled Georgia State within two points of Arkansas State with two minutes left, but the Panthers’ try for a game-tying two-point conversion failed and GSU fell to the Red Wolves 35-33 Saturday at Liberty Bank Stadium"

5) Wisconsin (2016) - #9 Wisconsin 23 -GSU 17 - I don't want to talk about it.

4) Louisiana (2015) - Louisiana 23 - GSU 21 - Failed fake punt. Why? At any rate this loss led to the player's meeting which led to the 4 straight wins to put us in a bowl.

3) West Alabama (2011) - West Alabama 30 - GSU 23 - we played at Division II West Alabama. Yes I said AT. It was a night game. Nobody attended. There was no TV so we all listened on the radio like it was 1963. Contender for low point of the program.

2) St. Francis (2011) St. Francis 30 - GSU 27 OT - NAIA St. Francis beat us at home. They later did this. Yes a 30 for 30 style video about their great triumph.

1) Lambuth (2010) - Lambuth 23 - GSU 14 - LAMBUTH! The second home game in GSU history was a disaster. In fact GSU's website has no link to the stats or summary for this game. All you need to know is we led comfortably with about 5 minutes left and the NAIA Lambuth scored TWO touchdowns. The school famously went out of business that year. Ironically they were purchased by the University of Memphis whom we play this year...in our second home game.

That's what you call "The Good ol ACC Royal G5 Rogering!" You all got it broken off in you.... It was so blatantly obvious that they weren't going to let you come out of there with a win...

Hell, when we played them in 1999, the side iudge alone flagged us at least 4 times on our final drive.....ridiculous. We also got boned pretty good at NC State in the 80's

Tennessee. Not only because it was last year but there was prime time coverage, Musberger on the call, 9 years to the day of the Michigan win, they were highly ranked, would've gotten us ranked in some polls later in the season, and the fact the game winning TD was on such a flukey play. Dobbs speared/stopped at the goal line, fumbles into the endzone, Tennessee recovers. UGH!

The two near misses at LSU hurt, as does the 2006 game at Florida State. Noles scored twice in the last six minutes to beat us in a monsoon.
