somebody had to post the USMC plane crash in MS
my nephew just returned from ocs 2 days ago (lives in JXN)...

absolutely horrible....as my brother stated, "dangerous business when also not in combat"

makes one wonder how 'up to snuff' our transports are "functional" in scope....

The USMC KC-130 crash is horrific and odd. The C-130 has been around for half a century but has had instances in the past of structural failure.

Prayers out to the fallen soldiers and families.

Sad but deaths occur in military training. The C-130 , some at least have been in service for a long time. My brother (retired USAF) flew both c's as well as MC -130's his career.

Based out of MCAS Cherry Point. My wife works on base in New Family Support and her father (USMC retired) is also in a support role. Not a good day on base at all.

Til Vahalla Brothers.

Cherry Point is right next door to MCB Camp LeJeune, where I was stationed at. C-130 going down is unheard of. Not the most enjoyable flight, especially when they are in combat situations. I remember flying into Iraq in one of them, taking off and landing was like riding a roller coaster.

There's nothing quite like a night time combat landing in one of those things.....

Yep, it's quite an experience. Flew into Takhli RTAFB and back out to Bangkok after my SEA duty. Before it takes off everything rattles and shakes and you're thinking whether the aircraft rivets can take the strain.

Not certain about the "unheard of" statement but I do know that my brother listened to many recordings of planes crashing during exercises when he was a young Butter Bar.

Yes I know. Some of these planes ( C-130) were built in the 60's.

Reported a little while ago that the plane and flight crew were out of NJ, and had just passed through Cherry Point. Still a very sad day, but lots of relieved families at my wife's work.

Terrible tragedy. Prayers to all the family and loved ones of those brave souls that lost their lives. I was down in Destin a couple of weeks ago and the MC-130's and AC-130 Spectre/Spooky gun ships flying out of Hurlburt AFB were constantly flying low over the area.

I was doing s project on topsail island in nc this spring. It's close to the camp Lejeune in Jacksonville.

There were constant helicopters and ospreys flying by. Groups of 2-4 every 5 minutes. As much as our military flies training missions, I'm honestly surprised accidents don't happen more often.
