RE: 2017 Seahawks playing Summer Baseball Thread
7/3 Updates:

* Clark Cota has now made 5 appearances in the Cape Cod League. He is 0-1 with 2 saves, a 3.37 ERA, 13 K's and just 2 walks in 8.0 innings for the Cotuit Kettleers (9-9).

* Breydan Gorham earned his 3rd win of the season for the Sharks on Saturday, Jul 1, throwing 7 strong innings against Morehead City. Gorham (3-1) allowed just 2 earned runs on 7 hits, struck out 5 and walked none. Gorham dropped his ERA on the season to 4.03 in the effort, and has an impressive 8.7 K/9 on the campaign. His WHIP, however, remains high at 1.55.

* Luke Gessell, however, is struggling for the Sharks. He's 1-2 and his ERA has ballooned to 5.67 as opponents are teeing off to the tune of a .308 batting average against him. Gesell also has only has 10 strikeouts in his 27.0 innings.

* Austin LaFollette has seen his average drop a bit for Holly Springs in the last 3 weeks, dipping from .381 to .317. However, his power numbers are strong, has he's hit 4 HR's and is slugging a ridiculous .667 on the campaign, easily the highest on the team. LaFollette is also 2nd on the team with 18 RBI.

7/6 Updates:

* Clark Cota followed up his best outing of the season on June 27 (3.2 innings, 0 ER, 6 K's, 0 BB's, Save) with 2 rough ones in the last week. On July 1 against Falmouth he gave up 2 runs in just 0.1 innings and took the Loss. Then, on July 4, also against Falmouth, he gave up another run in 1.0 innings. Cota's ERA now sits at 4.00, though he does have 14 K's and just 3 walks in his 9.0 total innings of work.

* Blake Deatherage saw his streak of scoreless innings in relief snapped at 6 on July 4, as he gave up 3 runs in 1 inning of work for Upper Valley against Keene. Deatherage's ERA went from 0.00 to 3.85 after the outing.

* Cole Weiss continues to hit well for Victoria in the West Coast League, as in the last 3 games he went 3-8 (.375) with an RBI. His average now sits at .279. He's also been perfect defensively at both SS and 3B. At 2B he's made a pair of errors on the season.

* Weiss' teammate Riley Zayicek has also been hot of late after a somewhat lackluster start to the summer. In his last 4 games he went 6-17 (.353) with 7 RBI, lifting his season average to .246. He has 4 HR and 12 RBI on the season.

7/12 Updates:

* Clark Cota picked up his 3rd save of the season on Sunday, striking out 1 and allowing 0 baserunners to close out a 4-2 win for Cotuit over Harwich. Cota lowered his season ERA to 3.60 and now has 15 K's and just 3 walks in 10.0 innings.

* In the final game before the Coastal Plain League All-Star break, Breydan Gorham tossed another gem for the Sharks. Gorham tossed 9 innings of shutout ball against the Edenton Steamers, allowing just 3 hits, striking out 12 and walking none. The dominant effort improves Gorham's record to 4-1, his ERA to 3.08, and his K/9 to 9.47. Gorham might just be a stud.

RE: 2017 Seahawks playing Summer Baseball Thread
7/21 updates:

* Breydan Gorham continues to dominate the CPL. In a win over Morehead City on Wednesday night, Gorham improved his record to 5-1 for the Sharks, tossing 7 innings and allowing just 1 run. His ERA now sits at 2.80 and his K/BB is 45/18. Hitters are batting just .225 off of Gorham.

* Austin LaFollette has been in huge slump for the last month. After his average reached a high water mark of .381 on June 19th, he's seen it plummet all the way down to .239 for Holly Springs, also in the CPL. In his last 8 games, LaFollette has only produced 1 hit (1-29, .034) with no RBI and 1 run scored. Holly Springs comes to town to face the Sharks on Saturday night at 7.

* Clark Cota made 2 appearances for the Cotuit Kettleers since my last update, on Jul 15 and 19, with each outing lasting 2 innings apiece. He gave up a combined total of 1 run on 4 hits, striking out 5 and walking 2. Cota has a solid K/BB ratio of 20/5, and also boasts a solid WHIP of 1.07 in the competitive Cape Cod League.

* Ryan Jeffers has had a pretty solid campaign overall for the Upper Valley Nighthawks in the NECBL, who have a Northern Division-best 23-12 record. Jeffers is batting .274 with 2 HR, and is 4th on the team with 21 RBI.

RE: 2017 Seahawks playing Summer Baseball Thread
Gorham is the real deal. Cota and Jeffers are solid so there's no worries. We shall see about the big kid that decommited from UNC later this fall. He sounds like a guy to be dealt with and just may be another closer or longer relief guy next year. If Magestro can get his game together, Hawks will be a handful because he was nasty the year before and one tough hombre out there. Everybody was all over last year as a breakout year but the arms overall weren't there. If you have arms under Scalf, you will win. His teams always score runs. And, the years that we do have the arms, the bats are better because they face good pitchers.

These guys can all hit bad pitching, but when you can face quality arms, it prepares you. It's like playing a golf course from the white or blue tees. Anybody can score when it's easy. Can you do that from the tips? They need that to finally advance to where they want to go. It would be great to see Scalf reach his goal. He's been really good for a long time.

Absolutely. I've watched him pitch a couple times for the Sharks now and he's looked sharp and in control of the game.

A weekend rotation of Royalty-Sharpe-Gorham sounds great to me.

I have seen Gorham with the Sharks a few times this year,he is good. Strike thrower with good off speed stuff. He should be very good in the CAA. Most of the teams in the CPL have better players than the CAA has for the most part.

RE: 2017 Seahawks playing Summer Baseball Thread
In what will end up being Gorham's final start of the Summer, the Sharks defeated Edenton, 4-2, to reach the CPL Championship series on Saturday night. Gorham went 7 solid innings, allowing just 1 earned run on 7 hits, striking out 5 and walking 1. He didn't get the decision in this one.

The Sharks face the Gastonia Grizzlies in a Best-of-3 for the title beginning tonight at 7. The Sharks haven't won the league since 1999, their 3rd season of existence.

Royalty, Gorham & Sharpe should give us us three pretty good starters for this coming season.
