Greg transferring
I wouldn't be surprised to see Greg have to pay for his sit out year.

I think a rule change that a school cannot provide a scholarship during a transfer sit out year would slow down the free agency mentality. It is still a team game.

Maybe he has a chance as the last person off the bench for Boston College...

RE: Greg transferring
No inside information here, but from what I understand, Greg is introverted and as someone else said, not necessarily a vocal leader. He went to a small, very expensive private boarding school in Alexandria instead of the public schools in Chantilly where he lived. His parents paid significantly more for that compared to whatever tuition they may have paid at W&M and where ever he goes next year. My gut tells me that he will end up somewhere academically oriented where he can start (an Ivy or maybe even somewhere abroad?). He also may be real close to getting his degree if he had a lot of credits coming in and perhaps he gets it this summer. I think he can easily play in Europe if he shows well where ever he goes. There are a lot of leagues and levels over there. Many players with less ability than him play there.

On the surface this all seems very odd.

RE: Greg transferring
No inside information here either, just making some assumptions from what has taken place. It is possible that he may end up somewhere like Richmond.
They are still looking for Grad transfers for next year and might be willing to take him on for the "sit year" and have him for the year after that. They certainly play a similar style of offense and it is (despite what some on this board would only grudgingly admit 03-wink) a solid academic school. Also, what about Hampden-Sydney (Dee Vick, anyone?), a solid school. He could play right away.

On a couple other notes, the NCAA is still processing the Additional Year Waivers (you hear about one every few days or so), so hopefully Rimmer's will be decided soon.
This is, again, not written in stone, but a couple of my recruiting sources are saying he will be here, one way or the other, next season, either as a Grad Transfer (player) or Grad Asst. (part-time coach/student), depending on how the waiver is decided.
AGAIN, nothing is done, until the paperwork is signed, so, it's a bit of hope, but nothing to solidly count on yet. People DO change their minds.

Several schools, like us and Richmond are STILL looking for help for next year and, reportedly, even more names are hitting the Grad Transfer lists now, so, maybe something pops our way late. The waivers and player decisions have to be made fairly soon, so the player can be ready to enroll in classes (or summer school) when necessary.

Keep your fingers crossed for some good news and everyone have a safe Memorial Day weekend.

I love Tony. It ain't him. He deserves a 10 year contract extension if he can make anything out of this steaming heap.

Probably the best, most accurate, and most depressing post ever written on this board.

You heard it here first: Greg may not be transferring out to play somewhere else. Greg might just be done with basketball.

But why not stay and get a W&M degree? I guess I shouldn't assume that everyone had the same amazing experience that I did there.

Much closer to what I felt was really going on here, I just do not believe that Greg's transfer is basketball related, and certainly not chemistry related. This is a kid who was so sick that he could not make the trip to Towson, but had his parents drive him to the game so that he could play because we needed him!!

It never seemed like he fully recovered from the concussion last year. He never regained his consistency that was his hallmark the prior season. If that's bothering him still, I can definitely understand hanging it up.

To the last two posts, just look at Schlottman. Sometimes it is just time to move on with life after basketball.

When you tire of playing basketball, you are no longer a basketball player.

You can bank on that. The alumni rolls are chuck full of them. If you think I'm off base; join a group calling alums and asking for money. That's where the rubber meets the road and there are a lot of skid marks.

RE: Greg transferring
Sometime a person may decide he wants to change the atmosphere around him for their own personal growth. This is not necessarily a reflection on the coach, teammates, or school but the reality of life. Greg had a severe concussion and it is well publicized how difficult it is to come back from that.

We should cut Greg some slack, how many people would be so sick they go home and then have their parents drive them the play the next day to help the team like Greg did at Towson?

Good luck to Greg and best wishes!

HAHAHA!!! I thought he was done with basketball. No other commits for next season. We have now officially achieved dumpster fire status as a program.

I don't see any mention of Greg, either on the official Hoya bb site or in their chat board transfer thread after a quick perusal. If he's playing for them, he's flying under the radar.
