Roby to retire
Huge news out of NU today. Peter Roby announced he will retire from his position of AD from the school in summer 2018. Wow. What does that mean for us? I know many fans and alumni think he holds us back athletically, but he also brings to NU that sense of doing the right thing. He's been almost too fair at times with the support he gives to different teams. Many will remember him for suspending Cronin and basically showing him the door for a tiny violation.

Well, let's see where we go from here. Like him or not, he's an influential figure in the NCAA community. He also sits on the basketball selection committee.

Check out gonu.com for the story.

I was done with him after he killed the positive vibe at our very last Dieharddogs gathering in his first year as AD.

He stood in front of us and told everyone he wasn't here for the alums... just the "student athletes and coaches".

Look forward to a national search...

RE: Roby to retire
Wow I always knew there was resentment on DHD towards him but didn't know about that. Regardless of how he's done managing the program, when he makes it personal that's bad.

He's been very good at hiring new coaches, emphasizing student graduation rates and the Michigan State sports match up.

But his alienation of alums and the way he handled former hockey head coach Greg Cronin, track coach Sherman Hart and mens soccer head coach Brian Ainscough wasn't good at all.

Plus why announce this now? He could have done it in September. Look's like he wants a goodbye tour or something.

RE: Roby to retire
Here's how I will remember Peter Roby. The first time I met him he said, "Hi, I'm Peter Roby." We had a nice long conversation. The next time I saw him he saw me and said, "Hi. I'm Peter Roby." We had another nice conversation. The next time..I think it was in the lobby of a Syracuse hotel for an away NU Football game...I walked up to him and guess what he said. If you guessed, "Hi, I'm Peter Roby" you would be right. By the way, that was the conversation where he told me that we'd be playing football the following year at White stadium. What a contrast to Dave Obrien.
