I thought about it more with regard to increasing visibility for recruiting.

I agree.

I don't think bus ads will sell more tix but recruits will see them and feel big time.

RE: New AD's Huge Decisions
Poor Joanna Di Scipio and her inability to read. Why didn't someone come to her house and go through the entire W&M budget with her? Line one of the article: "As the new school year begins, students and parents throughout the College of William and Mary’s community fill out and sign a multitude of forms that indicate what their tuition will go towards."

And maybe we should be focusing on Physics instead of English. I think Prof Meyers could be doing an awful lot more with the money the College provides. If he wants to keep all the English professors he can just increase fundraising for the English department.

Edit: while it's filed under "Latest News", it looks more like an opinion piece.

RE: New AD's Huge Decisions
There were a few lacrosse players, soccer players, and swimmers in my freshman dorm. I had a running joke with them where I'd ask about my investment in them after games. I remember after one loss that was a bit unexpected the lacrosse player said something to the effect of "yeah, that was a dumb loss. I guess I owe a bit of the investment back to you."

JMU’s athletics fee is about twice as much as ours. Pretty easy to just talk about UVa and tech.

Not to mention intellectually lazy and slanted by not including schools at the FCS level where we reside thus being not particularly relevant.

Clearly the author was not witting/neglected to mention extent to which UVA and Va Tech benefit from ACC media, basketball tournament, and perhaps bowl revenue. That said, the College should be prepared to have all aspects of its value proposition scrutinized going forward. Athletics won’t be exempt.

Of course all aspects should be evaluated, but fairly and completely, not in an incomplete, slanted and intellectually dishonest way. But, he is a professor....

Suspect the article’s author is a student.

Sure, a student whose views are in lockstep with that professor.

Quote from the article: "When Huge (pronounced HYOO-ghee) took the helm in 2017, she let it be known that William & Mary was her ultimate destination, a lifelong ambition that nicely merged position and place."

I have never heard this and don't believe it. I mean I like Huge more than a lot of people here but it seems super obvious to me that her goal is moving on to a P5 program.

I agree Huge is ambitious and is interested in being a P5 AD, but I also believe W&M is a special place for her. I may be mistaken, but I believe I heard that her older brother was a football player/Kappa Sig in the early 80's and she spent a lot of time on campus.

A nice article.

Whether Samantha’s ambition is eventually here or elsewhere, I would like to see W&M’s Athletic relevance match its Academic relevance.

Making that happen would not only enhance Samantha’s career but also advance the College. That seems like a win-win situation, no matter what else is involved or not involved .

The current national turmoil will offer a unique opportunity. I hope that she uses it wisely for both herself and the College.

GO TRIBE!

RE: Samantha Huge
Huge also makes like 250k here, which is a good salary, but P5 ADs earn well over a million. I'm sure this is a job she likes a lot, but if a P5 school came calling and offered her a million dollar raise, I don't think anyone would fault her for taking it.

That said, I like Huge a lot as AD. She's ambitious and willing to make moves. I felt like athletics as a whole kinda stagnated under Driscoll.

I can't believe that the article lists redesigning the logo as an achievement.

Of course there are also the high level coaching changes that she has accomplished.

Not impressed.

I can confirm her brother, Chris, played football at W&M in the 1980s. Not sure about any of the rest.
