He's going to have competition to be the best sophomore corner in the league.

Duck might not even be the best cover guy on the team, Gibbs returns after a year off to get his grades straighten out, was 1st team all conference before his suspension, on top of that we are deep at every position on the back end of the defense, I don't know how good we will be up front and with the linebackers, but good luck throwing against our secondary.

I've never seen a corner at App jump routes like Duck was able to do last season. He jumped a few against Tennessee and then jumped three in a row against Toledo, breaking up every one. Those are just the few I remember off the top of my head but I do know Gibbs, while a good cover guy, doesn't have the anticipation that Duck has.

I think you're underestimating Gibbs here. He was second in the country in INTs, and only a couple were on deep balls.

Please keep in mind, he hasn't played in more than a year, and won't join the team until the preseason. He may not even be a starter at season's start.

Duck is better all round as he is much better in run support. If Gibbs can come back and get in the rotation this year we will have a VERY deep rotation at CB.

I don't recall him jumping the routes though. I'm sure you remember Duck breaking on an inside out coverage against Tennessee, diving over the Toledo player on a short curl three times in a row, and a few other inside out coverage situations he jumped.
I'm not saying Gibbs isn't an excellent corner, I just don't think that he has the same anticipation as Duck.

RE: 2 Sunbelt Sophomores Made the List
I'm not doubting the talent of the two SBC sophs that were named to this list but I can't help thinking that they're only placed on the list to represent the mid-level FBS programs and balance the list out a bit. You'll notice that the other 23 selections were from P5 programs. Was there nobody else worth mentioning from the other G5 schools and conferences?

I'm cautiously excited how good the belt might be this year OOC. Let's get it done, but take it easy on App State please. 119 days!

Troy-Boise and App-Wake will be huge winnable games for the conference this year.
