Then bowl eligibility plus best MAC facilities should lead to a very nice Football recruiting class....
I wouldn't put too much faith in facilities. The Convocation Center ushered in the decline of the men's basketball program.

The difference is, the football program has nowhere to go but up. The facilities won't guarantee any wins, but they are poor and in need of upgrading:

Either make the investment, and give yourself a chance to compete with the rest of the MAC........or don't make the investment and continue to be a bottom feeder. This is for ALL of EMU athletics, and the campus at large, not just the football team.

Disagree. Milton Barnes ushered in the decline of basketball. The dude inherited a championship team with a new building on the horizon and still F'ed it up.

I agree. The ship went badly off course. Players and assistant coaches left. Dissention was rappant.
What could have been the contination of a great run turned out badly.

Barnes was a poor choice. But the Convo, much more modern than Bowen, was unable to keep the program from going downhill. And 20 years later it has never returned.
Facility upgrade does not insure success.

True, but if a very good coach also has very good facilities, it's a recipe for success. The coach will always be the biggest draw but remember facilities help recruit a good coach to the school too. Let's roll.....

You want to hire Nick Saban?
EDIT: We already have a good coach.

And a good QB.

Agree that we have a very good coach and quarterback. One maybe both will be gone after we win 8 games this season. To attract our next Coach, great facilities should help seal the deal.

RE: The Championship Building Plan Thread
Dear steve,
This reminds me of when Eastern built the Jones Natatorium, and it was the finest pool complex in the State of Michigan. U-M immediately went forward the next year to build a pool complex that would rival, or be better then what Eastern had. Of course with the money they have, adding anything to the university is no problem.

Yes, Ken, UofM can raise inordinate amounts of monies if the will or need (like the harrowing thoughts that EMU might have an athletic facility better than theirs).
This is the operational definition of an athletics arms race.

EagleTough, funny analogy. I'm thinking your scale factor is off. Maybe it's an aircraft carrier vs a squirt gun.....
