RE: Retirement
Retirement Announcement tomorrow, 2 pm, Wren Building. Bobby Dwyer's big announcement follows at 4 pm, but no one will be there (including Bobby).

That has to be Reveley.

RE: Retirement
Reveley was my first thought, and agree it looks more like him.

Question is will it be this year, or next year. Hopefully next year, to give a committee time to find a top quality replacement.

But if he is really having issues, then it might be this year.

Would imagine his announcement is timed so the BOV meeting doesn't have to address extending his contract again, and it allows the replacement search to get put in place and install his successor prior to his last day next June. Don't believe there are any issues. It will be interesting to see where the next president comes from and the skill set looked for.

This makes a lot of sense.

Beanie-I was sad to see the shots at Bobby. I have worked with him for years and he is tireless in his passion for W&M athletics.

Doesn't Gene Nichol answer to Martin Brinkley at UNC?

Mrs Got Ribe- Trust me, not everyone has the same experience as you've enjoyed with respect to Bobby. You might say mine has been 180 degrees opposite.

RE: Retirement
I have known Bobby Dwyer for more than 20 years. He is one of the finest men you'll ever know and
has worked tirelessly to make the Tribe Club a terrific supporting factor for W&M athletics. Bobby is responsible for generating some of the major financial gifts to the athletics at W&M, as well as the number contributing to Tribe athletics, and has increased yearly contributions by millions of dollars.

He has, additionally...and quietly, dramatically improved the department's relationships with the school administration and faculty over the years, as well as solidifying relationships with former
Tribe athletes.

To carelessly dismiss this W&M stalwart with a dismissive few words does him, his work, and the College a stunning disservice.

You must consider Steve Bannon a tremendous resource to Donald Trump.

RE: Retirement
I would put Bobby in the same category as JL and Tony. I would disagree with anyone who would want any of those three gentlemen to move on.

Conversely, I would not put Bobby in the same category as JL and Tony in terms of public criticism on this Board. JL and Tony are fair game in this era, but I cringe when Tribe athletes are called out by name in this forum, and I think Bobby is like an athlete. These public posts against Bobby make me cringe.

I get that different folks have different "takes" and experiences, and the first amendment is sacred, but I find this to be inappropriate.

The performance of someone who works in the Athletic Department as head of development for Tribe Athletics shouldn't be discussed on a Tribe Athletics message board?

I don't have anything against Bobby, but athletic development, and the perceived performance of those responsible for it, is pretty common discussion on sports message boards.

The performance of an employee of the College in their capacity as an employee of the College should probably be open for discussion, be it president, dean, coach, head of development, professor, etc. If there's a line, it's not to let it cross over into personal attacks. Someone's interaction with donors as the head of development would seem to be open for discussion to me.

Again, I don't have anything against Bobby, but it seems like development in the athletic department and the relationship between the head of that process and donors should be open for discussion.

I draw the line differently. I feel free to offer critique, sometimes harsh, of policymakers. Terry is a policymaker. Tony is a policymaker. Bobby is not; he is an instrument of Terry's policy. That said, people of good conscience can draw the line in different places.

And since Bobby has become the subject of the thread, I have found him to be a dedicated employee of the athletic department. Where we have had differences, it is simply because he has been executing a (wrongminded) policy of the AD. He's a good guy; he loves William & Mary, and he has always been good to the Ribes. Of other things, I know not.
