Manuel would check all the boxes for us as an assistant. Him coaching at the mid-major level for the last 4 years is a very important aspect for us. And at 34 he's similar to Siddle: Relatively young and hungry.

I just posted in another thread I felt like we may end up in a total rebuild mode this year. Guess it is coming true. If Siddle wasn't the guy, then he wasn't the guy. It is short-sighted to keep him on just because of player retention if Bass didn't feel he was ready to run the show. In hindsight, there are a lot of what-ifs, and the decision to navigate away from Keatts' style will be dissected ad nauseum. We'll certainly miss Bryce, and time will tell if this was a wise move on his part.

Perhaps one criticism history will have of Keatts is an inexperienced staff. It would've been ideal to have someone ready to move into the HC role and provide a smooth transition. I've been impressed with McGrath so far. We'll definitely take a step back next year, but I do not believe this is a Benny/Buzz scenario. We have a good coach and he's already hired one very qualified assistant. If McGrath were to leave in 3-5 years, Esleeck is ready to be a head coach.

Esleeck and Manuel have good reputations as recruiters, as does McGrath, but the former two have done it at the mid-major level. We've lost our entire recruiting class and our best returning player. Now, we have to hope that Cacok is committed. We have a solid back court in Taylor, Richmond, Talley and Fornes. Add 2-3 freshman recruits and a grad transfer post and we can keep this afloat. As bad as it is, there is still reason to hope.

Just talked to UNCW AD Jimmy Bass who said Bryce has not formally asked for his release from the school. Still enrolled and on the team

I'm not sure where they are getting the info but it seems people over there are getting info faster than we are. I'm not sure how. Hopefully it's not true. I'd hate to see C.J. go! I'd love to see his jersey hanging in the rafters someday!

I think it needs to be said, but keeping CJ would be awesome. We all love him and hope he stays to carry on a winning tradition and to carve out a legacy at UNCW.

Yep. It's done IMO. I would call this an unofficial feeler to see what type of interest is out there before making it formal.
