Samantha Huge has been named the new W&M Athletic Director.

She's coming to Williamsburg from Texas A&M.

Looks to have heavy fundraising background, experience at Wake, Georgetown and UD.

Her brother played football at W&M in the 80s.

Seems like as good a hire as any.

Lots of compliance background. Not much football, basketball, baseball experience. As always, time will tell. Hope she is great.

I like this hire a lot. She has worked in big successful programs so she'll know how to get things done but she was also an athlete at a VERY small school so she has a natural understanding of some of the restrictions she'll be working with. Has a background in fundraising, which is exactly what the department needs. The only area I could see her struggling is with the rigorous academic requirements.

Yep, also hoping that she sees no need to move on from job #8 for a long time!

Does she have any experience in hiring? I would guess Jimmye will retire under her tenure

I did my grad degree at A&M, it's a fantastic athletic program (I may be a little biased), and I'm sure she'll bring great experience. Anyone who comes through College Station gets big exposure to Football, even if it's not mentioned on a bio. Look forward to seeing what she can do.

Yep....Huge was hired at Georgetown by prior UD AD Muir, who then brought her on to UD, but she didn't follow him to Stanford, maybe thinking she could make an impression as interim UD AD, which didn't work out. Hard to know if UD board feedback will be a result of their distaste for the subsequent Ziady/Harker period, or anything owned by her. Would hope we tapped into Bob Gates' connections still to get off the record feedback. Time will tell.

Sounds like I would of had a shot.

Glad they went after someone with a fundraising background. The best way to get more money for the programs is to make the pie bigger.
