RE: MBB and Competitive Excellence
Thanks, 20. What we've had, in the past few years alone, are donations from a couple of families in the many many many millions. That, with the unbelievable donations from very wealthy folks and us commoners SHOULD be enough to fund the Yankees. I don't think money is the problem...I think our issue is how SOME of that money is spent because we simply refuse to make basketball a priority. To be fair, I think decades of ignoring all of our teams brought us to where we are. Football finally received some love in the form of the JL Center and Zable but I cannot recall improvements to our basketball facilities in the time I've followed Tribe athletics.

Coach salaries, a place to practice when the weather is bad, transportation issues, outreach to gain fan interest, recruitment budget, facilities. ..all subpar.

One Tribe. One Family.

One Tribe One Day (the big donation drive) is coming up at the end of March...

what are the funds we can give to that will support Men's Basketball?

last year for this day I think I gave money to the Pep Band and the summer basketball scholarships...

RE: MBB and Competitive Excellence
Tribe Club email today regarding One Tribe One Day:

"As you know, 100% of the monies you provide for a specific sport go DIRECTLY to that program."

Soooooo.....not reapportioned to the other sports or is it??? Why does the TribeClub try to spread Fake News if they know it is hurting MBB?

RE: MBB and Competitive Excellence
There is much confusion around this and I don't have a good answer for you.

Scholarships need to be paid and funds that go to the Unrestricted fund pay for Football and Men's basketball scholarships. Restricted funds cover all other sports. So, giving to unrestricted allows the Tribe Club to meet the majority of our scholarship needs. This year, Tribe Club needs to raise $2.8M in unrestricted funds and $1.4M in restricted funds just to cover scholarship costs. This is a yearly commitment that increases every year (as tuition costs increase) and all of that $2.8M has to come from private donations. That's only for scholarships, before we can fund any related costs of athletics.

So, it is important to give unrestricted funds so that we can meet our scholarship needs. In addition to unrestricted gifts, however, I strongly encourage folks to give to an area they are passionate about. The way that men's basketball gets funds that are used by the basketball team is to give to a specific area--like summer school, coaches salaries, etc. If you look at the drop down menu on the email that was sent by the TC, you will see all of the options of giving.

Unfortunately, our summer trip line item has not been included yet. They are working on getting that added. All I've got to say is that it better be there by 3/28!

Because I'm lazy - can we post the code in the first post in the thread for easy reference?

RE: MBB and Competitive Excellence
I will start a new thread with a link straight to the page (no searching necessary) and instructions. It is important to wait until Tuesday to give if you want the gift to go toward OTOD. Only donations given on that day count toward the totals. And there are monetary incentives for the following categories that could benefit Athletics:
1) Total # of Donors - $15,000
2) Total # of New FY17 Donors (people who haven’t yet given this fiscal year since July 1, 2016) - $15,000
3) Largest % increase in donors from last year’s One Tribe, One Day - $15,000

Last year, there was only one incentive category (total number of donors). Athletics came in second and got a $15,000 award! Let's see what we can do this year.

Just throwing something out for context, if anybody is interested. This is the report that some of us did at the request of the Tribe Club a few years ago. (Well, OK, we kinda had to ask them to ask us to do it, but whatever.)

It mostly deals with game day stuff, but we drifted a little here and there.

No warranties that you'll find it worth your time, but it's here if you want it.

This is all really good stuff. Comprehensive and some great ideas included. I think there's a lot of this that can be implemented and built on.

A good read and good stuff. There has been much implemented and more to implement. Thanks to all involved in this grass roots effort!

This was both a heartening and a frustrating read. Heartening because it contains a great number of effective, practical and achievable ideas. Frustrating because while some real progress has been made (summer school scholarships, Gold Game) it is not clear who has taken ownership of getting the rest of the ideas implemented (or better ideas if that is the case).

Is C4Tribe still in existence? Its committee would seem to be an obvious starting point for the leadership of basketball booster club.

Remember that in 2016 our push was for Summer School Scholarhips. This year it was to fund the international trip. Can we establish a priority(ies) for 2018 and plant the seed now?

(And because it was negative and not helpful to the fundraising effort for the international trip, I have not shared my feelings about the "sudden" case of the disappearing funds for that trip. I would hope that a booster club would provide that second set of eyes that would identify such a fiasco well before it happens.)

If we don't have a plan, and metrics to measure success against that plan, we are doomed to fall back into irrelevance in basketball.
