Gee, that's about what we brought in for regular season home games with Milligan and Savannah State.
And what exactly are we doing to help our recruiting? Refusing to invest in ANY post season opportunity? Playing a joke OOC schedule? Watching our players move on to other opportunities?
You can nit pick the ROI on CBI/CIT all you want - reality is they are just one example of how others - virtually all others - TRY to move the needle with their program - vs. W&M - who sits back and just complains, finds fault - and wonders why we are the ones who can never scale the mountain.
We need an attitude change. Maybe our new AD will bring it.
Agreed! We are all hoping that the new AD will usher in a new way of doing things and a change in attitude that will lead us to scaling the mountain. She has the credentials, from what I've read on here she has the tools and I for one am willing to help within my limited talents and means to see her succeed. She should be judged on her performance, not her potential or gender.
I understand we all aren't ever going to agree, particularly on this subject. It's not the first time or first year this has been debated here.
When I looked back again at THs note, it struck me though how we do actually choose to look at this so differently. It does explain a little of the coversation on this thread.
In THs case, he is looking at Mason, an A10 team that opted to accept a bid to the CBI. They had arguably their best year since leaving the CAA and I beleive, felt it was a positive to reward the team and fans. They are no stranger to these tourneys, having finished as runner up in 2013 - with wins against Charleston, Houston and Western Michigan along the way. This time, they lost a game they probably should have won. They sold 1,400 tickets, about 35% of their average attendance. They paid to host, not too different than our bidding to host Duquesne in the FCS playoffs and pulling in 4,000 for the privilege. Their fans are upset - which is understandable - and they blame it on the event. It's a great example to expose - if your position is opposed to these post season opportunities.
On the flip side, you could look the opponent, Loyola, a Patriot League team, that also opted to play. I don't believe they paid any fee of substance as they didn't host - but what did they get out of this? They got a post season game - and a decent win - against nearby George Mason, an A10 program. They now move on to the quarters to play Coastal Carolina - a win there could put them in the semis against either Rice or Wyoming. Will this help their recruiting? Probably, how can it hurt. Kids like to play. Would this have been a great spot for W&M? Absolutely. I would take a win at Mason and a shot against the others in the bracket.
Just depends on which side of the coin you want to frame your point of view.
Being this case is closed, I'm shifting my hopes that we can get some action on the pre-season side of this. That is officially what can be "Next Up". Let's hope we make an effort.
