There are always unintended consequences. If he says **** em after learning of this then you have yourself an honest to god thread.

They could continue it with outside contractors. Any government agency has lots of funds in its budget for that, it's SOP. Or some of those fat-ass bureaucrats sitting in DC doing nothing could get their butts out to the field and do some actual work.

Besides, in the middle of a school year, how big a detriment is a hiring freeze anyway? It's not like they're staffing up for the start of school at this point. Probably 95+% of their staff should be in place. If they're needing to hire any significant numbers at this point, it's because somebody on the admin side screwed up badly. Which is, of course, always a possibility when dealing with government agencies.

This is just another incident like closing national parks and monuments with the government shutdown. The fat cats in DC should take the cuts, because they are the ones who do nothing useful, but they get to make the decisions. So they look around and find the things that will inflict the most harm and hassle on the general public, and that's where they put the squeeze. It's just their little payback for anybody trying to kick over their rice bowls.

They got a waiver to hire child care workers. The issue has been addressed.

My wife is in new family support for the marine corps. They were under the hiring freeze until last week. She said the freeze should be lifted on the childcare services as well because it's considered essential services.

Reading the memo given it seems like that particular location was understaffed at he time the freeze went into effect. My wife said she seriously doubt they will be prevented from hiring someone to meet staffing needs.

In other words, bureaucracy. A background check should be a click of a mouse for a childcare worker. But that doesn't keep a hoard of fat women with no marketable skills employed in DeeCee.
