4-1 final. Sucks.

Next up, a 3-game series at home with Florida Gulf Coast, starting Friday at 4.

It feels like every year our bats get a slow start. Am I crazy or did we win a lot of games last year in the mid-late innings. I seem to remember a lot of games last year where it took 5-6 innings for our bats to come around, and that it was similar to this year where the beginning of the season we scored a limited amount of runs. I may be wrong. Don't have time to look at stats, just going off memory here.

Where is my analysis czar?

The 6th inning was our most productive inning last year. Many games we broke it open in the 6th. On the whole, pitching is doing their job. And when the bats do come around, I believe we will explode on the scene.

Needs to happen soon, because now we're 0-4 vs ranked opponents and quality teams that would allow us to host a regional if we explode on the scene. The guys need to remember they were pre-season ranked for a reason. Play the ball they're capable of playing. Not sure what's up with Magestro, but hopefully he'll come back around.

I don't think they're forgetting the expectations. But some year's teams take longer to "gel" than others. Baseball is weird like that. We've had years where we started hot but peaked too early, years where we peaked late (exactly when you want to), years where we peaked in the middle. I don't have a good answer for why that happens.

But I DO remember the 2008 season. We started 1-4, then reeled off 21 straight wins.

More recently and on an individual level, I also remember when Evan Phillips spent his first 2.9 seasons disappointing, then in his final 2 starts he was shutting down Charleston and pitching a gem against LSU, resulting in him getting taken in the 10th round by the Braves (he was drafted out of High School so his finish to that season wasn't the ONLY reason he was drafted high after that, but still). Strange things can, and do, happen.

The 2017 squad seems very much like a "sleeping giant" right now.
