RE: Hofstra Part 2
I am really worried about how much the team is going to regress next season without Dixon. Still don't think it has sunk in how much he means on both ends of the court.

We probably lose by 30+ without him tonight

That risk is over, Elon lost.

We could still be the #6 though.

OK, Towson is the #3. But we could be 6 if Northeastern beats UNCW Saturday and we lose to Towson. Of course it is Senior Day for the Seahawks and they will likely need to win to get the #1 seed. So we are likely 4 or 5.

Tot has been here a couple of years and plays just a few minutes a game. There's a reason for that, unless, of course, you guys know more than Shaver about this team.

That is because Shaver values offense and Tot isn't a scorer

Will be interesting now to see who gets the 7 and 8 seeds. I don't envy the team(either UNCW or Charleston) that gets Hofstra in the quarters. As long as UNCW beats Northeastern, we get Elon a week from Saturday.

T. You are so intuitive. I do think that. To have a 6'6" point with long arms, court vision, sees his teammates, can get them the ball, and understands some kind of idea on the importance of D and have him on the pine. It doesn't compute.

His 6 pts a game are what you get.

Who scores 6 pts a game? Don't say Tot.

If we beat Elon in the 4/5 game, and Hofstra upsets Wilmington in the 1/8 game...can you say Sunday rematch with the Pride in Charleston. Could Dixon dagger them one more time before he graduates and finally send Mihalich over the edge into a straitjacket? One can dream, right?

I just hope we get the chance to play either one. Dixon was really really good for most of the game, but we do need others to help. Otherwise, I don't see how Daniel could possibly carry us for 3 games, maybe one, but no way more than that. The reality is that tonight Malinowski was good for the first 5-6 minutes and then disappeared. Omar did not have the good all around game we need, and Cohn was a disappointment. We are getting more for the 5 spot than we had any right to expect before the season. We simply have got to play some defense, shoot well, and share the ball to win. 17 assists tonight, but not many after Whitman's great stretch with 6-7 minutes to go.

Some of the shots Hofstra made tonight, Daniel contested and they still went in. But, Greg, Paul, David and Justin all struggled defensively. As seems typical against Hofstra, Burchfield basically did not play. The last 3 years in the tourney we won 5 games and nearly went to 3 straight finals. It will take unbelievable shooting to do it this year. Tonight we shot basically 50% and lost. Other than in the opening 4-5 minutes, we had none of the scoring runs that helped us blow out our last 5 home opponents.

OK, thought the #1 seed was still up for grabs.

Tot doesn't even score 6 points per 40.

I was surprised Pierce didn't get more minutes tonight given that many others didn't play well. He is pretty good defensively and could've helped.

Why do you guys think Rowley's play has dropped so much? It seems like he hit a wall or something. I know he is no defensive stopper, but for the first 2/3 of the year he was a significant threat on offense from 3. Not so much the last 2 weeks. We miss his scoring.

My guess is a nagging injury

I agree! Pierce had 10 points in 12 minutes at Hofstra in January including that big time steal and has proven he can play some quality defense. Puzzling he barely sniffed the court tonight.

Hofstra Part 2
Jack Whitman's two handed slam over Gustys WAS the greatest highlight play I have ever seen in my 43 years of watching Tribe basketball at the Hall. Crowd exploded.

Hofstra wanted this game more than us. They were hyped in warmups, and came out with far more energy than us to start the 2nd half. If not for Jack's inspired/explosive stretch to pull us back in and get the lead, Hofstra would have pulled away. Really a shame to get that kind of monster effort from Jack, and not have the rest of the team rise with him, with the exception of Daniel who was spent at the end from his effort on both ends.

We were a much better team with Tot at the point tonight. He had 8 rebounds in 16 minutes, and simply is able to see the floor better with his height. I had concerns about his handle earlier in the season, but we are a more potent team overall with him than Cohn at this stage. When Tony reinserted David and Mal with 4:30 to go, I thought game over to Hofstra, and it was. I expect Mike will get the start for senior day on Saturday, but Ollie deserves the chance to start from his game play going forward, or at least see far more time on the court. I am now in Tot's corner until proven wrong. Tony has not been afraid to juggle the lineup, and I would be very surprised if we don't see some movement there.

We never made any effort to deny Wright-Foreman the ball in the second half, so, he expended no energy until the ball was in his hands. Hofstra was in the bonus so early in the 2nd half, that we could have gone with a strategy to trade players fouling Gustys away from the ball down the stretch and bear his making 1/2 FT's versus just letting their guards go off on us. Think Tony is far better from the bench than he showed tonight, but we just allowed Mihalich to ride his horse(s) to the win. No coaching involved from Mihalich's end.

Gustys appeared to me to still not be fully recovered from his hamstring injury. Dangerous team for Saturday, assuming they play up to their ability on Friday, and not down to their opponent. They simply don't have the depth to make it past Sunday. Barring injury, with Buie back, their redshirt freshman who was NY POY, and assuming they'll add a JC or grad transfer, I'd rate them next year's preseason favorite, even over CofC.
