The one thing I think I can say with absolute assurance is that if Mr. King has a problem with something he will tell you to your face. You may certainly disagree with him but being anonymous is not his style.

RE: Pep Band Silenced
So you want a competitive men's basketball team. In order to do that you have to recruit athletes that want to play at JMU. Athletes like to play in front of big noisy crowds and have fancy locker rooms. They want to experience that buzz and energy of college basketball. The memories of that high school gym with parents, few friends an a crappy pep band that is being forced to be there is in the past.

Most nights the ONLY buzz in the convo is the Pep Band. There isn't a team in the CAA and a lot of the NCAA that wouldn't want a pep band that brings the passion and love for their teams that the JMU pep band does. I understand if they are doing something classless but I haven't seen a single instance where they have done something questionable.

Does anyone drug test our admin and president?

That is better than cool. It is off the charts fun and this from a Christian college. My guess is there is no alcohol involved. Just students having fun together. Major kudos to the folks at GCU.

RE: Pep Band Silenced
We do not have a first rate team nationally (or even locally).Nor do we have a first class arena or basketball schedule for that matter. Our basketball tradition seems like an ancient memory. But the one thing that we DID have was the Pep Band.

The Pep Band always rocked the house. And when we fielded competitive teams and played a top opponent at home, the Pep Band gave us a tremendous atmosphere. They could even get the "sit on hands" fans excited during a key moment in a game. Our band could raise the level of enthusiasm better than any I've ever encountered. In that respect, we are as good or better than any program in the country. The Pep Band was the driving force. And now the administration want to shrink it and mute it.

Sometimes I feel like they try to guess how I would handle a situation or how I would decide on something....and then they do the exact opposite.

We've heard how VCU is a tough place to play, 100 sell outs, great atmosphere, loud.... The pep band IS the heart beat of the fans. Chad was doing a great job bringing that same vibe to JMU (without being an ass-hat like Ryan) but I guess a few folks don't want fun and excitement and would prefer khaki pants, stripped shirts and kids acting prim and proper like they are playing Caregie Hall

I've heard a rumor that next season, all donors will be required to buy a sweater vest and wear them to all home games. Butt cushions and knitting during the game is encouraged. (sorry, wrong VA team)

This is all more and more embarrassing as it sinks in. I mean, how the hell do they justify this?

That is why it is so frustrating. We have seen how it should be done, the school grew because it was done the right way, and now this!

Mason's pep band has tripled in size and their director has become the face of the school. We started with a truly great band and now are not allowed to use it.

Sometimes, the things we do are so hard to comprehend that I don't even know how to respond. I mean this really boils down to a debate I never thought we'd have:

Whether or not we should try our best and be proud of our talents.

How do you argue with people who think that the answer to both is,"no?"

RE: Pep Band Silenced
I am certainly not one to constantly bash the administration (like some on this board), but reports of this - combined with the MRD snub of Frisco - infuriates me.

Obviously, there are lines of decency that cannot be crossed by the Pep Band - but as long as they toe that line, let them do their thing. Too loud??? Are you kidding me??? What would happen tot he noise level in the Convo if JMU could actually fill the place with students???

As a high school educator in the middle of New England, I would think those in charge would appreciate me trying to recruit students to consider JMU, but I don't see how I can do that if the administration cannot show its support for the Band program.

Another reason to voice your displeasure with the person at the top of the university for his poor leadership and overall woosiness on the survey that has been distributed. I used the comments section to do so at every opportunity on that survey.

Thank you, good Sir. Hopefully, they can go on to win a national title and the Knitting Dukes coaching staff will be given raises and contract extensions.

not so fast. I didn't mean to pull the wool over your eyes cause it's not all potpourri and roses with that program. There's a lot of tension among the staff. Also a couple starters failed drug tests; turns out they were hooked on some bad stuff. hopefully they bounce back in time for the knitty gritty of the schedule.
