We certainly have our hands full trying to put together a schedule. Hopefully it involves some SBC schools. I suspect your newest members in particular will be strong possibilties in the coming years.

The meltdown the USA President is worried about wouldn't be coming from me.

A Coastal fan talking ****? Well at least we've got better beaches.

Not talking **** at all. I think it's wise to try and pick up easy FBS wins if you're going to try and make a run at it as an independent. So they should schedule teams from the worst rated conference in FBS football. It's logic, not smack talk.

Come now, you're certainly talking ****. Unless you just come across this way because teal is one of your schools primary colors. I could see how that would give you a complex.

Keeping a lid on the sexuality of the best player in women's college basketball probably takes a certain talent. He might put them exactly where they want to be. (Y'know, without sex scandals and all.)

Lets keep this on the practicalities of LU moving to FBS. Leave the smack for later.

1) They have to put together a schedule with five home games, four of which MUST be FBS teams.
2) They have to schedule the rest of their schedule. They will need to figure out how to get late season games too.
3) They will have to figure out bowl access
4) They will not have a G5 vote in NCAA meetings
5) Teams scheduling away games with them will have issues with certain alumni, student, donor, and fan groups. Expect the whole HB2 mess about access to facilities to be applied to them at the institutions that schedule them. This issue isn't going away, and LU will continue to be a lightening rod.

They obviously think they can make a go of it or they wouldn't be announcing.

RE: OT: Liberty to FBS
Thanks, tarmack.

Let me tackle Tom's concerns:

1. We are required to have three home FBS games in 2018 as part of the exemption. Beginning in 2019 and moving forward we get into the five-game requirement. This fall our schedule will be unchanged similar to Coastal's transitional year.
2. Getting this news today really puts us in a pickle on short notice to get things together for 2018. We will have to look for bye weeks in G5 schedules and work with the other Indies on the late year games.
3. Bowl access is a long way down the road for us. And the way things are shaping up, bowl access may be a bit of a moot point in the coming years for all of us.
4. Somehow I think missing out on G5 vote is of minor concern
5. Everybody keeps saying this is going to be a concern but we really haven't seen that happen in spite of the fact we have been high profile for decades. Football is not a philosophical discussion. It is football. the only place we have had issues has been with conference admission. And that will likely remain a concern for awhile.

And before anyone brings up our lack of access to CFP money, remember that you don't miss something that you've never had.

I would expect to see them on Georgia Southern's schedule before long. We've practically already formed a scheduling pact with NMSU and UMass.

Smart move by ALL of us is to treat them like a FCS team. But I'm sure some of us will bite on scheduling them.

Here's the openings for road dates for FBS OOC

USA - None till 2023
App - 2019, 2020. UNC isn't on that schedule though
Ark State - None till 2020
Coastal - plenty of openings. Dumb move to schedule them though. Treat them with 'separation'
***Ga Southern - None till 2020***
Ga State - None till 2022
Texas State - None till 2020
Troy - plenty of openings
ULL - 2020
ULM - 2020

Our joke of a AD would be the first to jump on the band wagon. Hopefully no one calls use to break contract like Kent St.....

I suspect your athletic departments were already hearing from us by phone this afternoon. We don't have much time to schedule three home FBS games for 2018 much less the fibe needed for 2019 and beyond. My hope is that we get some home and home deals with some of you guys. That way you can play us without Tom having to be associated with us.

Between FBS Independents, MAC, CUSA, and SBC I do not see a problem with Liberty getting their 5 FBS home games or whatever . . it would be a good H&H and an easy drive for many of these teams. Contracts are not as permanent as we might like them to be . . money talks.

CONGRATS to Liberty !! 04-cheers

RE: OT: Liberty to FBS
They probably won't have a problem getting the schedule at first. They will be aggressive with this move and throw money at teams to come to town. If they were willing to throw extra cash at the SBC hoping for an invite, they will throw cash to get home games.

Liberty is hedges their bets that there will be more realignment after the P5 TV deals start to expire after 2020. This will give them the upper hand in getting a G5 invite they otherwise wouldn't have.

Short term they should be able to get home games from NMSU, UMass, UAB, and CCU.

They will probably end up with some 2-1s with G5s as well just to make it work.

CCU will not travel to Lynchburg unless Jerry sends a Brinks truck to Conway. Was it a good rivalry yes. However it is in the past and we have stated we are interested in bigger games than the Bible Thumpers.
