A Closer Look at Texas States 2017 Class
Because I don't have access to the data I use to, and because I like Composite Ratings I did a little spread sheet on this years top SBC Class on 247-Texas State.

Thought I would follow it over the next few weeks, and to better understand how 247 really works.

Just looking at the rankings , it appears they have only one consensus 3 star on 247, Rivals, Scout, ESPN . Excluding 247, for now, it appears that ESPN is the primary driver of the high rankings of their players, and Scout and Rivals are not that impressed.

Texas State signees ratings/stars on 247, Rivals, Scout, ESPN(3-star ratings in bold):
Kieston Roach- .8603/3, 5.3/3, NR/3, NR/NR
Jalin Nelson-.8335/3, 5.4/2, NR/3, NR/NR
Kishawn Kelly- .8222/3, 5.4/2, NR/2, 70/3
Gjemr Daniels- .8215/3, 5.2/2, NR/2, NR/NR
Jaylen Gipson- .8156/3, 5.5/3, NR/3, 70/3
John Brannon- .8123/3, 5.3/2, NR/3, 72/3
Jakharious Smith- .8056/3, 5.3/2, NR/3, 71/3
Preston Dimery- .8038/3, 5.2/2, NR/2, 70/3
Josh Newman- .8008/3, 5.4/2, NR/2, .75/3
Willie Jones III- .8004/3, 5.4/2, NR/2, NR/NR
Kordell Rodgers- .7990/3, 5.4/2, NR/2, 69/2
Landon Harris- .7950/2, 5.2/2, NR/2, 69/2
T.J. Bedford- .7932/2, 5.2/2, NR/2, NR/NR
Anthony Smith- .7932/2, 5.5/3, NR/2, 72/3
Jeremiah Haydel- .7853/2, 5.4/2, NR/2, NR/NR
Caeveon Patton- .7853/2, 5.4/2, NR/2, 69/2
Caleb Carlile- .7824, 52/2, NR/2, .71/3
Reece Jordan- .7802/2, 53/2, NR/2, 68/2
Nic Foster- .7761/2, 5.2/2, NR/2, 68/2
Sami Awad- .7700/2, 5.2/2, NR/2, NR/NR
Anthony Mays- .7700/2, 5.5/3, NR/2, NR/NR
Tanner Kink- .7642, 5.2, NR/2, NR/NR
Clab Twyford- .75/2, 5.2/2, NR/2, NR/NR
Nick Wilkins- .7597/2, 5.2/2, NR/2, NR/NR

Man, it'd be a lot easier if you just waited to see how they preform on the field.

I mean if you're that interested you can buy a season ticket and come see for yourself lol

RE: A Closer Look at Texas States 2017 Class
I just thought I would take the top class and use it as a visual aid as to how 247 works, over time.

Looks like a solid class at first glance into the details.

Want to correct myself about Scout, they also have it as the #1 class, and Rivals has them tied at #3 in the SBC.

ESPN, 247, and Scout are pretty solid on the class, and Rivals appears to be the exception( I'm assuming ESPN has them as the top SBC Class but don't know, yet).

RE: A Closer Look at Texas States 2017 Class
While I have not seen a ranking buy them(other than the top 50 classes), looking at the individual schools - Texas State is the run away winner when it comes to rated players and stars, on ESPN.

They have an impressive nine 3-stars, and four 2-star players in this class.

The closest team to them is Troy with six 3-star and two 2-star, and GaSt with five 3-stars, and three-2-star (but those eight have a little higher grade, than Troys),and AppSt with two 3-stars, and three 2-stars.

It appears on the surface that it is ESPN's ratings of their players that solidifies Texas State as the #1 class in 2016 (#1 on Scout, ESPN and tied for #3 on Rivals).

Now to figure out how this effect 247's ratings, where they are also #1, and appears to be the "standard candle" here ( I also like 247).

I did notice that ESPN does list transfers from four year schools, but not sure if they factor into the ratings

What can I say, hard to study A-State without a "cheat-sheet" (and I've got called a lot of names-especially from A-State posters here - for having one in the past), because 247, and these other "for public consumption" sites simply are not designed for "funky" Recruiting.

While I'm not 100% sure about ESPN,they ignore transfers from four year schools( who helped you win a SBC Championship), and even the JC bounce-backs from four year schools ( who helped you win a SBC Championship)take a beating on all these sites.

Your QB bounce-back QB from Oklahoma lost a star, and your bounce-back safety from Clemson lost a star, your bounce-back safety from Boise lost a star, your bounce-back WR from Arkansas lost a star, and on and on.

I know these player are good and will be factors next fall, but what can I say, 247, ESPN, Rivals ,Scout and posters here don't care, and if 247 is the "standard candle" here , I want to know what it is about.

What it is about in 2017-without a "cheat-sheet"- is Texas State kicked butt this year in recruiting.

What impressed me was that even though I freaked with all of the decommits (especially the last week) the staff had equal or better recruits waiting to plug in; if necessary.

That's not something I've witnessed before. So, they did their homework and, apparently, had a back-up plan for numerous positions.

We also got a few good PWOs

I have a feeling an ulterior motive is at play. Can't have talent reported to be better than A-State's. "While Texas State's class appears to be great, here's why it's not". There's not really any other reason to dog their class out of the blue like this.

Looks like an excellent class, and nothing "funky"" about it.

Think I made it clear that I wanted to reeducate myself on 247, which looks like the "standard candle" here, because I do not have a "cheat-sheet" anymore.

Just chose Texas State because they have the best class according to that "standard candle"-247, simply to better understand 247.

After looking at some of the detail's (ESPN, Scout, and Rivals), IMO there is absolutely no doubt Texas State has the best class in 2017, by the things these sites chose to measure.

If my old "cheat-sheet" says other wise, I will never know.

How many of your decommit's were actual decommit's, and how many were encouraged by Withers and Co to look at other schools?

I am not at liberty to discuss the information I derive from various sources. TXST forum people understand thatCOGS

I understand there are variables but it's just easier to say decommits than go into all those reasons.

Remember, I'm on tramadol. Writing (and thinking) are not easy right now.

Although it does not effect 247 rankings, the Rank by Offers site appeasers to have been updated and GaSo is at the top of the SBC at #78, followed by GaSt at # 86.

Now are you going to try and bring down GS and GSU's recruiting classes as well?

Can't really use rankbyoffers to determine how good a class really is. By the definition of this site, a guy who is offered to all the G5 teams but no P5s would be "better" than a player offered by just Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson

Who's class have I tried an bring down?

Texas State is #1 on 247, Scout, ESPN, and CFN, which makes them the best class IMO.

ULM #1 on Rivals.

GaSo #1 on the Rankings by Offers.

I just though I would use the #1 team, and their player rankings to better to understand how 247 works, because I prefer composite rankings.

Actually now that I don't have access to the roster talent rankings in the SBC courtesy of the company I contracted with, and on which I made all my predictions( and like it or not they were right more than wrong) , I'm hoping the College Team Talent Composite on 247 is a good replacement.

The College Team Talent Composite, does include the transfers from four year schools that are not included in the class rankings, and the talent on your roster compared to who you play matters over the course of a season.

They have not added the new players, still 2016. Not sure when they update it.
