Basketball season as hard to swallow as the football season was.

Disagree with you there. I expected us to be a top 15 team nationally in football. In basketball I expected us to be about mid-league

Elon 27, W&M 10 at HOME. Nothing so far in basketball comes close to that. Although losing to Hampton was pretty bad.

5 of the next 6 games at home. If we can find our confidence, our shot and some energetic defense at home, we could still turn things around going into February. Had we won today, we actually would be in really good shape. Now, we almost have to run the table at home.

+1. The Elon game was perhaps the hardest game to watch. Home opener in the newly upgraded stadium, all that hype, and horrid all around. Tough drive home, and the sobering realization that '16 was not going to be the season we expected. Did not get warm and fuzzies after NCSU and Hampton, but the Elon game was like a sucker punch to the gut.

In conference play W&M is allowing teams to shoot over 50% from the field (worst in the conference) and 42% from 3 (2nd worst, ahead of Hofstra). You have to be nearly perfect offensively to overcome that kind of defensive ineptitude. You have no margin for error against a competent team. Set aside cliches about defense winning titles and paint games and whatnot- if you aren't interested in stopping your opponent you won't get too far.

W&M has also played the best shooting teams in the conference so far (outside of Charleston). Elon, UNCW, Northeastern, & Hofstra are the best offenses in the CAA. When we play Towson, JMU, Drexel, and Delaware, those percentages should go down.

How confident are you that those shooting percentages will go down?

I'd put money on it.

RE: College of Charleston
Dixon looked like he could hardly move on the bench Saturday night. I'm afraid it looks like a chronic issue.

This might have been the first game we really missed Seacat. Our bigs were soft going to the boards and had many shots blocked.

Depending on how long Dixon is out, I expect to see a lot of Prewitt at the the two position with Pierce getting the bulk of the time replacing Prewitt at the forward position.

Burchfield and Rowley are outstanding spot shooters but the athleticism of the game seems to throw them off their rhythm.

Knight and Pierce are playing like they will be outstanding juniors but we are experiencing their growing pains now.

Anything better than a blowout loss this past Saturday was a step forward for this struggling team. They need to learn how to win but playing a competitive game against one of the three top teams in the league without our leading scorer shows the ship is leaking but salvageable, not sinking and doomed.
