Exclamation Neutral Site Football Championship Proposal
As we all know 2018 will be the debut of the 1st ever Sunbelt Football Championship Game. As of now the game will be hosted by a sunbelt school at a home site. Which in my opinion does not give the game a true Championship feel as it would be at a neutral site. Yea its great for the team hosting the game but it puts the visiting team at a major disadvantage and lets face the facts not many folks want to go to premier travel destination as Monroe, Troy, or Statesboro just to name a few.

For pure interest of the fans and universities I would much more look forward to travel destination to play at.

So hear me out ;-) I would love to see a Proposal to have a neutral site game at a location beneficial to both teams playing. That means the championship destination will be different depending on who your playing! Just imagine the excitement that will bring! The destinations will be predetermined so you will know where you will play as soon as you know who you would play!

Match-Ups could use sunbelt bowl sites, sunbelt school sites, or other factors

Here is what it might look like:

App vs USA = Turner Field Atlanta
App vs Ark St = Legion Field Birmingham
App vs ULL = Legion Field Birmingham
App vs Texas St =Ladd–Peebles Mobile
App vs ULM = Legion Field Birmingham

Troy vs USA = Crampton Bowl Montgomery
Troy vs Ark St = Legion Field Birmingham
Troy vs ULL = Ladd–Peebles Mobile
Troy vs Texas St = Superdome New Orleans
Troy vs ULM = Superdome New Orleans

Coast vs USA = Turner Field Atlanta
Coast vs Ark St =Turner Field Atlanta
Coast vs ULL = Legion Field Birmingham
Coast vs Texas St =Ladd–Peebles Mobile
Coast vs ULM =Legion Field Birmingham

GSU vs USA = Crampton Bowl Montgomery
GSU vs Ark St = Legion Field Birmingham
Gsu vs ULL = Ladd–Peebles Mobile
GSU vs Texas St = Superdome New Orleans
GSU vs ULM = Crampton Bowl Montgomery

GS vs USA = Crampton Bowl Montgomery
GS vs Ark St = Legion Field Birmingham
GS vs ULL = Crampton Bowl Montgomery
GS vs Texas St = Superdome New Orleans
GS vs ULM = Crampton Bowl Montgomery

No thanks. Rather see the highest rated / best record team pack their stadium for the TV

I like that you correctly left Boone off the list.

I am sure all the App Fans would love traveling half way across the country to play Texas State or travel to beautiful locations like Monroe, LA. Or even having a rematch with a team in the same location it was at during the regular season.

The solution to that would be to win and have a better record.

G5 conferences don't usually have great attendance at neutral site games.

And thinking about it, WKU only had 13k at their house for the CUSA championship game

So who knows.

Still, I feel the team with the better record should be hosting.

Agree. This format would either hurt the championship game attendance or our bowl attendance, which is the most important thing right now. Best team should host.

Another good reason for highest rated team to host is that that team will hopefully be in contention for a NY6 bowl and will have a great change to win the CCG and go to a NY6 bowl. Especially considering the fact that there is an 80% chance every year that the SBC CCG will be a rematch.

So, based on your suggestions, the Western Division Schools should be forced to travel much farther than the Eastern Division Schools to play the game?

Thing is, if the school wants to host the game, all they need is finish with the better record.

If App and AState play for the title, App finishing 7-1 with a loss to AState and AState 8-0, You probably not going to hear App fans complaining about having to play at stAte for the title.

Championship games are not about Premier travel destinations. They are about a football game.

G5 usually does bad because they are on a Friday night or to far to travel to. Thats why they would be in locations close to the schools taking part in the game.

CUSA is way below the Sunbelt. 13K is good for them ;-)

Still doesn't make any sense. If Texas State finishes with a far better record than say Coastal, why should they be forced to travel to Alabama to play the Chants when they could play them in San Marcos? Ditto for Coastal.

The thing you seem to be missing is that Texas State and Coastal are already going to have to fly to get to Mobile. If you are going to fly, then it's far cheaper to let one team host and force the other to travel.

I liked the thought process but it just makes too much sense for the team with a better record to host.

Of course those teams could have equal records so then thinking about tie breakers is interesting too.

1: Head to head if that happened.
2. Better overall conference record.
3. Who has a better record against teams from the other division.
4. Better OOC record
5. Dress Benson in a donkey costume and see which AD can pin a tail on him first.

Without knowing what they'll do tiebreak wise, my guess is that the school ranked higher in the Playoff rankings after the last week of the year will host if the teams have the same conference record and don't play head to head.

Neutral site is not a good idea. Play at the home of the team with the best record.
